This is a VERY helpful topic. I just don't understand enough. Could we get some more info? So far I think I've learned not to try this in AZ, right? In which states do we have to buy only from truck designated fuel places? Frankly I'm scared to try any of this b/c I don't know enough. Maybe a list can be started of can do and can't do states. Thx.

Person, I'm not real knowedgable on this, but I was an O/O in '07/'08 and my company that I was leased to did my IFTA fuel taxs quarterly and sent me a printout which showed what states I traveled in and bought fuel in and either owed additional tax or was owed a refund. Most of it balanced out (almost) because of the fuel tax paid at the pump. Now, regardless of the state, if you can buy diesel fuel at the car island for way cheaper than the truck island, it seems to me that there is no truck tax on the car island and you would get gigged for the tax when you do your IFTA quarterly report. Now I could be way out in left field on this matter, plus I seem to remember car diesel is a different blend than truck diesel, but not positive. :biggrin_2552:

Diesel has the same tax rates on it at both parts. Except for a few states.

Indiana, Kentucky, Oregon, and Arizona. These are the ones that come to mind. I will try to research a little further.

Alot of companies use the comdata or whatever fuel company card used to provide them for the fuel purchased.

if you buy fuel at another locationa and provide a receipt. It provides the gallons purchased, state purchased and location. They would get the tax from that point.

Before making such purchases, it would be best to clear it with the company and make sure you are not getting into trouble.

I am an O/O, but not subject to IFTA anymore.

I know back in 2000 when I leased to Landstar, they tried to tell me I had to fill up at places that accepted the comcard only. They told me that they would prepare the return only with the comdata information.

I advised them if they filed my return that way, I would report them to the government for filing false returns. I explained they had to use ALL FUEL RECEIPTS. I then explained that I had 20 years of accounting background and knew the rules.

They said they would check on it and after 3 hours called me back and stated I could fill anywhere I wanted and the return would be properly filed.

I don't need anything re IFTA etc. Got that covered. Just don't want to be buying fuel at a place where some state says a commercial vehicle can't buy fuel. If there is such a thing. Perhaps I should just relax about that. Seems the pump should SAY not to use it if there was. Not sure that I'm not a little concerned even about getting some dyed fuel, but THAT should be stated on the pump.

I googled around a little and I find that car diesel and truck diesel are the same blend, but is NOT the same as red dyed diesel. ( I already knew that) Red dyed diesel is clearly marked at the pump, so as not to make a mistake.:biggrin_2552:

In Arizona, you don't have to worry about it, because there are no Murphy's at any of the walmarts. The last one going west, is in New Mexico.

Arizona won't allow Murphy's to compete. So, Murphys doesn't do business in AZ...

All the info you need, is that you find the cheapest place to buy deisel. If it's green, buy it. period. And murphy's deisel is green.
