Chizek rolled himself this morning on I894 just after the I43 junction. This is not a bad curve, road conditions were fine, traffic was light. How and why did it happen and could it have been prevented?
My guess is he entered the curve at 60 mph (55 mph road), then tried to brake in the curve, and then lost control.
As to could it have been prevented? No one really knows, but if the last 12 times he went thru there too quick and ALMOST rolled the truck and his manager got an alert, maybe the driver could have been advised not to drive like a jackwad.
People love to rag on the megas for bad driving that leads to accidents.
They also love to rag on all the steps the megas take to try and address the issue.
Y'all know my stance on training philosophy and know I think the entire industry needs to do better. We also need to call drivers on their BS. Critical Events are a way to do this.
With most drivers if they have a hard brake the response is "what happened? .... alrighty then, have a nice day, drive safe" and nothing more is said. Its only when there is a pattern that there is an actual response. The op has had 3 or 4 CEs in two days. That is more than I have had in the last 9 years. Something in his driving style needs to be addressed.
From a trainers perspective CEs can be a nice teaching tool "See, even the truck thinks you are driving like a jackwad". -
Maybe the driver manager should just control the truck from his cubicle.......
I’ll assume the truck has some kind of crash mitigation system.....?farmerjohn64 Thanks this. -

I’m also not saying I didn’t do anything wrong, but my problem is I have to waste time going back to Arkansas to back in a controlled environment and turn on roads I’ve already driven hours are/don’t really reflect the ones that give me the most trouble; I’d much rather more seat time out on the open road to correct these few kinks
