Well I'm going to CRST in IOWA this Saturday. I know they pay guys like me nothing. The way I look at it is, I called over 50 companies, and none of them will hire anything less than 6 months experience. I try to look at the positives first. I will hopefuly gain some experience for them or another company down the road(line) The instructers at my school even told me, with the unemployment the way it is now "Any job is a good job". Scary but true. Anyway thanks for the advice and wish me well![]()

Hey everyone - im a newbie trying to get on board , i recently graduated training school & have my license but can't seem to get a job because i have NO exp. - so how does one get experience if its hard to just get in the door so to speak ??? i know i've made a right decision to start my driving career but i just can't seem to get a company to hire me so what should i do ???
-
Household companies often look for CDL drivers, this time of the year in particular...That how I started...You get plenty of city driving, as well as backing...
-
And don't go Carolina Cargo or CR England. -

I know nothing about becoming a trucker. I know I need the license, and I know I need experience. I also know you can make great money leasing or owning.
Please review this below and provide feedback. WHO is the best truckline to start with???
I looked at England, they pay up to 50¢ per mile (Company drivers), up to $1.53 per mile for Independent contractors (this right from the site). "And youre guaranteed to only pay $1.25 per gallon for your diesel."
Once I've graduated from a school, England will train me on their 'policies, etc'. During their 'school', 17 days of training, 30 days with a trainer $430 a week, then 60 days at .12 per mile. After their 'refresher course', they provide:
Your options are:
Lease your own truck and become an independent contractor running your own business
- Lease your own truck with a six-month demo lease
- Remain as a second seat at 13 cents a mile and continued company benefits
- Join the relief fleet
- Become a company team driver
The school refresher program requires a payment of both tuition and a processing fee.:
- Processing Fee A processing fee of $100 is non-refundable and must be paid upon arrival at the CR England facility; we accept MasterCard, Visa, and Discover Card.
- Tuition Tuition is $1,395. This may be financed and deducted from your check for $55 per week.

I just looked at England! I know nothing yet and want to get licensed, etc. HOW do I ensure I don't get screwed but also get a job quickly???

DO NOT
I repeat
DO NOT
go with a lease program right out of school. you have no idea what driving will really be like. so why risk commiting to years of payments from day one. FYI England starts around .26 a mile for newbies and I dont think they break .30 even for 2-3 years. Go with a more reputable smaller company. Find a regional where you live that will hire new drivers .GTI has a great program if youre on the west coast. They start hiring then any other "training" company on the west coast. Im not too sure about east coast though and I didnt see where you live. but please once again
DO NOT LEASE STRAIGHT OUT OF SCHOOL. -
Ya, I'd avoid CR England altogether. Got a REALLY scary story about one of their fresh-out-of-school lease ops I met in the drop yard that Marten and CRE share out near Stockton.
First time I saw that "Lease, Train, Drive" on a CRE trailer I thought, "That CAN'T be the right order, can it?" -
Do anyone know who has a cheap refreasher course in the chicago illinois area? My husband has a cdl but was only able to use it this pass may which now means that he has had his license for two yaers and no job, so we were thinking of a refreasher coure at a trucking school or a company do anyone know of a company that does refreasher course at this time?
