Does W/S do background checks prior to orientation??
Also, you guys might want to check into the WIA grants for school cost. You have to go to a local school, just make sure that W/S hires from that school.

Hey all, just a few words about W/S, I quit a month ago after a year...
W/S doesnt really reimburse you for school.
They take a penny a mile out of your pay and apply that to what you owe, granted if you only get 8,000 miles a month there going to kick in the other $20 to make your $100 a month payment.
I could be slightly off on this since i didnt go through there school or reimbursement program, but that was what they told us in orentation and why I didnt bother to do tuition reimbursement but at the time I thought I would be running 10,000+ miles a month so I guess its an ok deal when your only running 8,000 miles a month and they kick in that extra $20.00.
Anyway I also Quit W/s recently after allmost a year with them and I was very happy to have them let me prove to them that I was capable of handling the OTR truck driver job on my own with no trainer. Thanks W/S
I have been with new company for a month now and even though I have the same job title, OTR Driver, it is alot diffrent.
This company sends me a load allready planned out a day before I drop the present load I am on.Wow It is so refreshing to know in advance Where I am going next.
I also get paid $15 an hour for detention pay after sitting for 2 hours to unload or load.
I have only had one time where I was layed over for 1 day and they paid me $75 for that one day.
Driver managers they have, they actually talk to you and have more then a clue as to how to do there job.
Anyway if your just starting out with W/S hang in there for awhile then get on with a better company, I really dont want to do OTR rest of my life but the job I have now is actually allmost worth it, I cleared $4512 as of today, been allmost exactly 1 month with them. easily twice as much as I made with W/S.
Cheers and good luck all. -
For a driver entering the "motor pool" right now, limited experience...what do you think the load availability situation (with W&S) is like? (More specificly, how many miles...trips) In years past, of course, this wouldn't be an issue; but the thought of giving up a semi-stable, but low paying, part time job scares many of us. I have driven before, so I'm not afraid of the job aspects, just starving and going to debters h***. Are any of you newish guys getting $1200-$1600 monthly? Maybe it's rude to just come right out and ask about the money...but desperate times ya know. Thank you guys.

Naw'lins, thanks for the info. My record is sPotless (no Points), and my cdl is current. I am actually currently imPloyed (1 year, 1 month). I'm just concerned about not letting me in because of other things, like my Prior imPloy 5 years back, more sPecifically working overseas for this N.G.O., non driving job. My current emPloyer actually says that he will say whatever I need him to say (he does not want me to go). HoPe they let me in.

I think when they used to do financing they would pay back $100/mo to your loan. They say there is a guaranteed job after finishing the school, is that true or do you still have to go through a hiring process after the school is finished?
