LOL... the first week I used an electronic log... it was a Qualcomm many years ago... I went one minute over my 14 and 11 and 70....![]()
All because I didn't know how to use that crap and had difficulty disengaging from the trailer... and I rushed bobtail to a truck stop and as I entered the truck stop that darn machine said that I had committed all those violations... I screamed out loud, grabbed that thing and almost threw that crap thru the window....
Now... with this new change, driver said we can't even use PC (personal conveyance) if we have an empty trailer..... I wonder if the mechanism will detect whether or not a trailer is hooked...
So.... if I am delayed by accident on the road or traffic and rushing to park, won't I be able to use a few minutes on PC to park because I have a trailer...?
And BTW... what happened to allllll that talk about the new HOS? I thought everybody wanted to get rid of those stupid and useless 30 min break...? They make us more unsafe than before...![]()
What if it Snows?

My thing is about it is at 9 hours 59 minutes and 45 seconds you are unsafe, and a menace to society. Sixteen seconds later you are awake and alert, even if you are a zombie.RidgeRunner731, WesternPlains, stuckinthemud and 1 other person Thank this.

That is PRETTY SCARY... I REALLY hope I die before needing a nursing home... cause I have no family at all... no brothers, no sisters, no kids, no relatives, nobody... and hiring a group of people to take care of all my needs would be extremely expensive... not to mention having someone to take care of my finances...
I pray I don't live that long...

One of our friendly competitors went to ELDs a couple of years ago.
The first trip out one of his drivers got caught in LA traffic and ran out of hours. The ELD started beeping at him, softly at first and then progressively louder and faster and louder and faster. The driver couldn't get off the freeway, the traffic was bumper to bumper, and the ELD was going faster and louder...and he kinda snapped.
He picked up his stainless steel thermos and beat that SOB to death. He kept hitting it until it was quiet. Little plastic pieces and wires all over the inside of the cab . Total destruction.
He had to replace it when he got back to the yard but the word got around and we all pitched in to help him pay for it
I know the guy pretty well. He's usually calm and quiet but the ELD screaming at him on top of the LA traffic was just a little too much. Made for a good story around the dinner table at family gatherings. He's my brother.RidgeRunner731, Opus, Cattleman84 and 9 others Thank this. -

Very good article... My Unlce Eldred was an Infantryman Attached to the 11th Armored Div.... He was there in The Bulge... And later was one of the first units across the Rhine... And he was involved in the liberation of Mauthausen Concentration Camp in early 1945... The entire time looking for his brother, who was a an waist gunner in a B17 that had been shot down over poland... And had been captured.RidgeRunner731, WesternPlains, Dave_in_AZ and 4 others Thank this.

WesternPlains and FlaSwampRat Thank this. -
I can totally sympathize with him... and would have helped him too.... I have heard some guys log out and keep driving to safe parking.... but some (old) machines kept giving visual warnings... don't know what they would do nowadays...lovesthedrive, WesternPlains, Dave_in_AZ and 2 others Thank this.
