or do you prefer to find multiple partials? Is it easier for you to stack multiple partials and get a better per mile rate than one full load?

I'm a flatbedder but I much prefer 1 stop especially on tarp loads.

I don't see how you can get a better rate when you consider the amount of time involved in multiple stops. Not to mention the out of route miles.

Over the long haul it could be better milage pay if your stops line up half decent but it's more hassle than it's worth in my opinion. I would rather be able to unload and reload in the same day

I am not afraid to load multipule. However the more haul miles involved for one load only to one delivery only is the most efficient form.

I used to run the NE with up to 40 stops and it would take me a week to get rid of them all 24/7 a long time ago and the money isnt that different. So I moved on. If I am going to spend 5 days knocking around, might as well load me in Yakima WA with onions (One of my favorite long haul shippers) and go to downtown Boston Market with it about 3000 miles in 6 days or less. Depending on weather in winter. A little over 4 in summer. (Back then long before computer anything)

I’m just curious if anyone’s main strategy is to stack partials because they can more easily get the per mile rate up that way

Starting out I had a 25ft. Trailer. My strategy was to load and unload ASAP. Got a reputation for delivery in rapid time. Ending up doing this for everyone at the best rate possible. I now have the ability to stay home most of the time and wait for the rate con. to appear in my Email. My weekly volume is not great. This week $2850, having loads for Monday Wednesday and Friday, I was at the gym on Tuesday and Thursday. My truck and house are payed off and kids in the Military so I don’t have to be concerned with weekly volume. This will not work for everyone. Find your customers you enjoy working with and treat everyone as you would like to be treated.

Outside of hotshots, I did notice that the Chicagoland flatbed/stepdeck outfits seem to rely on partials entirely. We had a guy talking about his experience and the Eastern European dispatch seemed to entirely line up partials.

Amen brother, that’s good that you set yourself up for success by paying off your debts.

My goal is to get to a point where I don’t NEED to use load boards they would be supplementary. Definitely going to put in the hours, miles and time away from home to establish that reputation like you did.

    Thanks for the insight

I’ve heard some entertaining stories about the Chicago market/the Eastern Europeans...
