Well I am in the hotel right now and I have to be really honest...
It is not great but the guy that slept in his car was a pre-madana
This place is not the best but it is not the worst...
I am just thankful to have a place to sleep and shower Oh and it has free WiFi not bad :biggrin_25525:
The Budget Inn is like going to a fishing trailer not great but it serves the purpose. I dont need a pool or top of the line anything. i am here to be trained not pampered.....
    Ok back to sleep..........:biggrin_25518:

Jugomugo, I am in the Fort Wayne area and I am pursuing a career change as a Truck Driver. I am researching where to train for my CDL in NE Indiana. Do you recommend SAGE, and is that through IVY Tech? I am close to committing for the training program that Driver Solutions Network is offering through either PAM or USA Truck. What is your recommendation considering the experience you have had. I would appreciate any information you are willing to share.

    Thanks.

OK folks...I start at C-1 Indy on Monday Aug 3rd.

Not too worried about the hptel because I was born and raised in the South Bronx - and we learned how to keep our hallways fairly quiet with the implements we'd get on Bat Day at Yankee Stadium.

After 22 yrs in the military, staying in a hotel for training sounds like a luxury - and would seem to be conducive towards the receipt of complex and intense training. I just wish the cooking accomodations went beyond a microwave - since those type foods aren't exactly cheap...just convenient. Might just take a hotplate along.

I'm not going in with high expectations or with dread. This is gonna be just like that old military saying; There's no place worse than the one you just left, or better than the one you're going to. It's what YOU make of it.

I just graduated from C1 yesterday. Overall I had a good experience. My sister lives in Indy so I stayed with her rather than the Budget Inn. Apparently the hotel is a real dump but I heard the contract is up with them and they are switching to the the Holliday Inn. Week one was classroom and alot of info thrown at you. Keith was my classroom instructor and he was great. You better be ready to soak up alot of info cuz they throw it at you fast. Keith went on vacation at the end of my first week and our class had Walter who is the lead instructor for one day. He has been there for many years and is very good too. Second weekgot assigned our range instructors and had 3 to 4 students per truck. First day was spent practicing straight line backing. I caught on real quick as did two other students in my group. The fourth couldnt back that rig to save his life. After we all had all gotten practice on straight line we move to off side. The student that was having problems saw the writing on the wall and didnt show up the next day. Oh btw our instructor was Jackie. He was AWESOME, very calm and patient. Kinda slow with teaching us, didnt get in a rush. Thats probably why we were some of the last ones to graduate. He apparently has one of the highest graduation rates of all the instructors. Most all the instructors seem to really care about the students and are there to do nothing but see to it you get your CDL. I was having some problems getting my turns right on the street and Jackie saw to it that I practiced until I got it. As soon as he thought I was ready he sent me for my CDL test. First try I hit a curb and failed. Next day I went right back and passed. All the instructors were very congratulatory to me. It was a very stressfull 3 weeks, but it went fast and I got my CDL. I think it should be a longer course to get more drive time, but the bottom line was getting my CDL and I did that so alls well that ends well.

Does the hotel where the students are housed have WiFi? That will determine if I take my laptop or not.

Thanx Freebird. With the WiFi I can keep up with the family back here in TN while I'm up there - and watch my Netflix during the downtimes.:biggrin_25519:
