The other way is to take the 215/15/138/14-138/ Ave D-138 to 5/99. San Bernardino thru Phelan thru Palmdale / Lancaster / Gorman / Wheeler Ridge / Bakersfield / Fresno / Chico. Avoids everything west of San Bernardino, After 8pm the 210 would be faster, before 8 pm 15/138/5 would be faster mileage is a little longer thru the desert, traffic is lighter trade off.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
Some drivers run 15 to 395 to 58 west to 99, no real big difference on any of them just preference.
Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I wont tell you about alot of my short cuts through LA, most drivers would not use them anyway, but generally I don't sit in stopped traffic, I get off, and you bet lots of the streets I use are real narrow, but just part of driving.

You probably get fired for taking the chico freight to LA
Last time I was in Chico I thought it was north of SacramentoD.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
I 40 west, 58 west from Barstow to 99 north in Bakersfield. Trust me on this.
LoneRanger, jlp83, Bean Jr. and 2 others Thank this. -
OP...Just make sure your bills say CHICO and not CHINO.
We had a mega driver stop by our Chico yard last year and he couldn't find his destination. We pointed out to him that he was in the wrong end of the state and might want to give his dispatcher a call.LoneRanger, Bean Jr. and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
