2 million mile driver

So it does get you a discount awesome

 

The calculation above, approx 10,000 miles per month if you are over the road gets the miles.
But what type of miles were they? Not to take anything away from anyone who has a ton of miles, but different operations require additional skill sets beyond keeping it between the ditches.
Did you do the miles between Amarillo and Barstow dropping a hooking at a terminal at each end? Or did you do Grand Rapids MI to NYC delivering office furniture in Manhattan for 20 years? Did you pull doubles/triples out west some where where the weather is almost always a factor?
15-20 stop loads in a metropolitan area, backing in and around beyond tight environments? Hazmat tanker among the nuts these days? Flatbed with squirrelly freight you have to make sure stays attached?
Don't have the decal that says 4 million in 43 years, but I have done all of the above. You asked, so I will answer. Don't need to broadcast it to a disbelieving public.

 

The only people who are impressed by those "million mile" stickers are people who don't know any better.

In a performance based gig, the miles aren’t as important as being On Time and having No Claims.

 

I am ambivalent about this. Several of my friends are retired Military. Another person I won't call a friend, but someone I know spent close to 15 years on a seal team. These numbers about miles are almost like those "fruit salads" some wear in their dress uniforms. I will have the utmost respect for some of those medals, however, in the case of some people over half of them are made up medals just to give somebody a medal. I am sure the vets in these boards know what I am talking about. These million miles decals to me are the same thing.

 

that's the way i recall it being calculated, 100,000 miles per year, and about 10 years 1 million miles, 20 years, 2 million, etc.
i also kept my log books for a long, long time, and when i'd pack them away, on the box top, i'd jot down the miles so that i would not have to open the boxes and add up those miles again.

i would have had 4 million miles had i stayed long haul for my 48 years, but i switched over to local, regional, and dedicated, so of course, the yearly miles dropped off dramatically.

i do have close to 3 million, i don't think it's over 3 million, and frankly, i cleaned out the basement, this past summer, and well...bye-bye log books..

miles can be important to some people, like at companies that hand out awards.

but i was (i think) more of the mind set that i went as many years as i did, when i retired.

a person can be a P&D driver, and never reach the miles a long haul driver racks up, or like me and run various jobs, like dedicated years later, for decades and never reach high miles.

i think time is more important, than miles, as well as what type of driving, city, highway, days, nights, etc.

 

I really don't worry about how many miles I log. I only worry about how far it is to the next ####house. #### diarrhea.

Thanks, even less at 3 million. I've thought about that a lot, and while my friends were clinging to scaffolding in the rain, I was boogying down the boulevard in my slippers listening to Molly Hatchet in my cool old Peterbilt. I picked the right job for me, it wasn't always about money,,,oh, and another thing regarding the "patch". That was mostly a union bragging deal so they could puff up their feathers and have people and lessor ( they thought) drivers look and say, "wow". I never wanted that because it was bad karma. I can just see after an "incident", the "stripping "of the patch and sticker,,,for shame.

 

I've been a flatbedder 30 of my 35 years.My miles were hard earned.
