Any experiences with APU or less hassle overall to just idle and budget for the extra maintenance? Unit will be a 2020 GMC 3500. Over 25 yrs in trucking, downsizing to a hot shot with a 40ft PJ gooseneck with air ride. Thoughts on air ride on hot shot, welcomed; trolls tolerated. Regards and thanks.

A bunk heater might be worth it, a full blown APU.. not so much.
An option to consider is a small generator you can mount in the bed and in the summer months use a window a/c unit.Lite bug Thanks this. -
Maybe an RV dealership can spec it right for your hotshot truck.

Avoid idling as much as possible. The new emissions trucks don’t idle without clogging the engine and exhaust. No matter how hard you regen it that soot and Carbon finds a crevice to build up and harden in. I’ve seen 2018’s with less than 25k miles and the EGR and cooler are completely clogged from all the nights they spend idling.

They don't make a small enough APU for a pickup truck so you will be stuck with battery power and or a generator. You can get Chinese knock offs of the Diesel heaters off Amazon for under $200. They have a lot of positive reviews on youtube and so forth where people have tested them.
As far as AC unless you figure out some way to rig up window unit or something similar with a generator you will be out of luck. There are companies experimenting with portable AC units that are 12v but they are no where near good enough just yet.
Some of those purpose built Hotshot cab/chassis with the sleepers use Onan generators and RV AC units but that's also a pricey way to go and gonna be hard to make that work on a normal pick up cab.D.Tibbitt and Dagwood007 Thank this. -
