Funny you mention this. Someone I know that started in the late 70’s was just telling me about the group showers. I had no idea. Guess there wasn’t many female truckers back then. That could get awkward. I did ask him about that and he said when a woman needed to shower they would just guard the door.

    Love the older time stories.

Left lane hammer down.... Cali turn arounds.... Brokers that Paid... Bonus Money....Truckers helping each other out...No cell phones wait in line at the truck stop to use the phone to get another load...No GPS or Elogs... 3 funny books and you were good to go.. Quick look at the road atlas and directions from the Shipper and watch the black smoke billow out of the stacks as you bounced on spring ride not air ride like todays Trucks... Coffin sleeper for a quick nap... many times i roasted the chesnuts on a hot cup of coffee...LOL

From what I was told there were some truck stops where they would fuel your truck for you and pull it around to be ready to go while you went in and had a real cooked meal.

Also being a member of the Left Lane Gang running with Diamond Rios or Autocars, along with long nose Pete's and whoppers and with some pretty fast cabin overs ya always knew we were rolling just by the smoke and how fast the lights in your mirrors were coming at ya. Life was different back then scales closed at 5, traffic was not as congested as today and drivers were like brothers. Shakey, Windy and the Big Apple were the routes I ran the most back then. Yeah life was alot Easier.
