For an O/O what would you look for in a truck and why???
I'm looking for manufacturer, Engine, Trans, ect...
Not the bells and whistles, just real honest need to have stuff and why you would pick those things.

It all depends on the application of the truck your going to by. My truck preference is a Peterbilt. If I'm going to own it, I'm going to drive what I want. I look for a good solid motor with low miles or recently overhauled. My preference is for Cummins, but if I get a good deal on a CAT I'm not going to look past it. As I would be OTR, or if I was local, hauling fuel I would need horsepower/torque. I prefer a 13 speed at least, but it seems 18 speeds have become more prevalent lately in them. As for the rears, I prefer in the range of a 3.55 for all around pulling and running. Nothing too stretched out frame wise. Maybe 275 in. for OTR and if I was buying it for local definitley shorter. Overall weight of the truck makes a difference. Some companies have a weight limit (ie. 19,000 lbs. w/ 1/2 tanks of fuel).
I also look for the bells and whistles as most dealers base a price on them. More lights, premium interior, extra gauges, XM/Sirius, carpet over rubber floor. That all makes a huge difference in price. -
I was leaning towards 379 or 389 pete, 13 or 18 speed, cat engine. Defanatly OTR truck. Guages are a must have. The bells and whistles I was talking about was extra chrome ect.. stuff I can do without to save a few bucks and ad myself later, like extra lights and other bolt on stuff.
I'm just looking for the must have stuff. -
i'l take an old 391 chicken liner delux with a 722hp big block, a 23 speed goose slick tranny, 430" whellbase with a 10' spread on the tractor 33 inch kneel down sleeper with a turbo wing up to for fuel milege
Muleskinner Thanks this. -
i'd take a pete 379 with a cummins and an eaton fuller 18 speed with a nice high gearing.
the actual make/model isnt as important to me as that engine/transmission combination. -
i would like to have a harley, maybe a fatboy...

I am waiting to see how the new 2010 pisswater emissions trucks turn out. From the talk I hear, they should do a much better job and allow the engines to breathe once again. BTW, TA sells the pisswater in jugs for $9. Want to really do something for the trucking industry and help the environment? Make the emissions stuff be able to use any type pisswater. Suddenly, trucker bombs will be fetching a premium.
"Hey Joe, what ya doin?"
"I need some more pisswater. I am going over to those people over there at the picnic to see if they will piss in my jug."
"Hmmmm, I need some piss too. Think they got enough?" -
