3 Killed, 3 Hurt in I-35
Crash
I attached two pictures I took as I went by, it was really horrible. There's more pictures on the news site.
On the news they kept saying 18 wheeler and tractor trailer which it wasn't, it was a either a 6 or 10 wheeler flat bed truck, but I guess it's not news if you don't say 18 wheeler.

Terrible, just terrible

And think my dispatcher orginally wanted me to deliver a load to Gainsville.. Glade I told him heck no...
-
I pickup at Titan Tanks in Gainsville every week. this is just a small work zone and is well marked in advance. Don't know how this guy could have lost it so bad.
-
Yea it's well marked that's for sure. What 15 miles down the road you get your first warning for it.
This is the second time this has happened in this construction zone, on July 6th 2 people were killed when an 18 wheeler didn't stop and rear ended a line of cars.
I have a feeling the construction will be done before too long though, reports say it was a 45 day contract and that ends today or tomorrow and after that they start docking money from the price the city is paying. -
News tonight went back and there are 19 separate warning signs for miles before actual zone. I think they start warning you around Valley View. No excuse for not being aware unless the guy was in bad medical shape. It's only on the N bound lanes too. No rubber neckers.
-
You can bet they will beef up patrols in constructions zones now.. Today, in Dallas on Lake June road, they had a small construction area, speed posted as 20mph. Right before that there was a Dallas county sheriff sitting and watching..

Jesus, that little thing that barely qualifies as a "truck" hits 3(!!!) cars, kills those folks, and still makes it well into the median, and they call it "failing to slow"?!?
Actually, kinda surprised they understated it like that... used to seeing anything involving a truck as being construed as the driver declaring war on the passenger cars around him. -
I drove for Bradco Supply in Rochester NY for 4 years in a truck just like that....It's a Mack Granite series chassis with a Hiab 320 truck mounted knuckle boom crane...It weighs in at about 41,000 pounds empty,...and has a GVWR of either 74,000 or 80,000 depending on equipment....and after taking a second look at the picture, it has a mounted Moffett forklift on the back, so add another 7,000 pounds...
Many Bradco drivers that run those type of trucks have CDL-As for exactly that reason.... -
I sent a message to the news station informing them of the error in the reporting about the Truck. several times they referred to it as a Tractor-Trailer and an Eighteen wheeler.
