Any Autocar owners??

The Cummins 475’s I know about were low flo cooling twin-turbo BigCam 4’s?
Things to look out for.
Is the cab Aluminum or steel?
The reason I ask is if it is steel they are rust prone in a few places
1)rear cab corners
2)rear cab around the cab mounts.
3)bottoms of doors but some steel cabs were built with alumninum doors.
4)windshield cowl
5)under the air filter inlets
As was already mentioned in another post those cabs were the same as the Western- Star.
Windshields are getting rare so if u get a chance find some and pack them away for the future.
Gauges in the dash are the same in WesternStars.
When you need parts and can’t find another A-car in a salvage yard always look for a western star.

Your probably thinking of Reyco 4 spring which was common on many trucks....?

thank you, we have old trucks in the fleet as well but none of them have the Reyco or the Mack camel back.

I’m pretty sure the Mack trucks that the company had before I started here had camel backs.

The 1998 ford I’m driving has a Hendrickson RTE extended leaf.

Rides pretty good as the cab is air ride.

My father drove the old trucks back then (White Freightliner) but I can’t remember if they were spring or air ride.

They were cattle and pig haulers.

 

Looked up the 475 in shop manual. They did just have a NTC 475. Hi flo FFC cooling. Was twin turbo.

Should be a smoke free engine.

Always something for me to learn.

Those were big horses back than. They made 3406’s nervous.

 

Congrats on a REAL truck. These old trucks cost a little to get
them cleaned up and in good condition. BUT.....spend the money.....
keep them up and you will have a great ride for years to come.

I doubt whether that truck has ever been on a tow truck. They leak a
little here and there.....but they seldom break down. Plus......that is a truck
you can feel good about......take "Pride in your ride".


Been doing the local thing for a while now......with a truck like that I
might consider OTR again.
