220 with 5x3od. Sweetest sounding cummins in my collection. Its run as long as i’ve been around without an overhaul. I think it was at least once back in 60’s. #5 uses a little oil. Probably only has around 600,000 total on it.Top geared at 48 mph at 2100 rpm with 54,000 gross of bulls. Wasn’t a highway star. I don’t know why but i’ve found the 5x3’s to be the orneriest of the twin sticks to drive.

Regarding that old A/C that would be a trip down memory lane for me for a few minutes anyhow. Boss man used to keep me in them that he had in his time here in Arkansas for a little while. They are good trucks if you keep a eye on everything. No reason they wont do well today if everything is in order with them old iron. Fuel mileage would be your biggie.
Do not let that engine rev past 1000 until your water and engine oil temperature (And pressure is adequate, the turbo don't like it when it's cold and revved too early in warm up.) and the same would go when your day is finished let her sit and idle 6 to 10 minutes and cool down before shutting off.

Once moving it might take another 20 minutes to get the arthritis out of everything else (Wheels etc) once you get warmed up axles and all then you can go ahead and apply the jacobs or full power.
One other thing. Keep a little bit of that lidocane that we have today for your foot. I don't know if that truck is one of those where you have to stand on the hammer on the floor all day. Some of that iron was in my time. Not enough engine for the loads we put on them.
If anything carry a bit of can gun grease and fluids for her. Keep a milk crate or something on the right pax floor with them all in it. She'll maybe mark the territory and what not. I suspect many new trucks are not paid attention to by younger drivers who just crank em over and drive off in a minute as if they were a car. Those new trucks don't last either. Not like this A/C would.
Hopefully your roads are good. if you are a shake box either you are abusing it by speed or its not quite loaded right on your drives. (34000) And sometimes the dash might come loose. Not too often. I would not remember now whats what to fix that it would take alot of shaking. If you have airride back there then it's not so bad.Captain Mudsocks and Rideandrepair Thank this. -

This being winter I think you will smoke constantly starting at about 15 degrees on down. puff puff puff...
If there was anything that caused me trouble in those days it would be the old flapper on top of the exhaust. Sitting at a light waiting for green it clanged so much. Annoying.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -

I’ve never personally heard the twin turbo’s on the cummins run so i can’t comment on the noise level. I know old timers that had them. One was originally in a ‘80 359. But by the time he sold it in 96-97 when I remember the truck the most it was a beefed up single turbo. He converted it to single cause of cost turbos weren't cheap back then either. I don't recall him saying anything about any performance difference. Unfortunately by the time he sold it he was done with life and tired.
