On Bendix slack adjuster it takes about 70ft.lbs to back it off. On Haldex it takes about 13 ftlbs. One way to test your slack adjuster for proper operation is to back it off 2 turns and mark a line across hex nut and the slack adjuster, apply service brake and release complete several times and observe, hex nut must rotate clockwise. Remember to grease your adjuster frequently. If your brakes are out of adjustment, there’s something wrong with your slack adjuster. Max stroke for 30 brake chamber standard stroke is 2” and for long stroke is 21/2”. I know it takes time to check your brakes but it will save you money in the long run.

Yes that works for checking operation. It will operate even when wore out, but won’t hold adjustment if wore out. So like you said, if it doesn’t hold adjustment, lack adjuster is bad

I’m sorry you work for a company that has someone staring at a computer screen that will say you had a hard brake event while. Stopped. At. A. Stop sign.

Hard brake events are only triggered by sudden stops of the truck. You can't even get one below 20. I tried. They told me below 20 it won't trigger and they were right. But at 18mph if you slam on the brakes all the crap from from the top bunk comes to visit you up front. What a mess.

I’ve always thought about placing a sheet of wood to completely cover the top bunk and use it for storage. As of now, I just use the sides of the top bunk, so nothing will fall off in a hard braking event.

With the way dry van rates are now, Im trying to brainstorm other ways to make an income. I will keep an eye on my equipment and maintenance. I hope the dot in these broke ### states leaves us all alone.

How about running equipment that works? If a switch is so corroded (by your words) that's you have to fight it to get it to work....
An 1/2 your trailer brakes so out of alignment that they aren't doing anything...

No, we want these type of violations to be found.

I'd love to live in that world. we have to cut them off with an acetylene torch to change them after a only few years of service. it's easier to cut the end off the S cam and change the whole works.

D.Tibbitt, AModelCat and Frontman Thank this.
