but I will not say who I will drive for as It is considered one of the worse companies to drive for, but a rookie has to start some where, I have a grandson to raise..so I have to hurry up the earning process...capped teeth and docs are expensive!!:biggrin_25517:

ahhhhhhhhh go ahead tell 'em you're going to work for Swift. :biggrin_25525: I work for 'em.

    Okay, here's my advice:

    1.Take Triplesix's advice to heart.
2.Carry pepper spray when you get out of the truck.
3.If you're like me and get warm easily so you want to wear camisoles or tanks do so but carry shirts or light jackets to slip on when you get out of the truck.
4.Don't try to be one of the "guys". You'll just wind up looking "common" if you know what I mean.
5.Fix yourself up each day. Hair, makeup if you wear it, clean clothes, etc. You'll feel better as a woman and you'd be surprised how differently men will treat women who look like slobs and those that look clean and cared for.
6.Don't call the men "hon" etc. This is a habit I had and have had to break because it gives off the wrong signal to some.
    7. Make sure you pull your own weight. Don't expect the men to help you out. They will but if you're a driver..........be a driver.
    8. When you meet another female driver that seems to be a good driver, get contact info and stay intouch. It helps to be able to talk to others who experience similar things.

Ah Hun, I'm not going to laugh at you at all. We all make our decisions based on what's available to us. What I'll do is hope and pray for the best for you.

I just have one thing to add to the good advice already posted- don't let anyone intimidate you. As women, we were raised to be good little girls, to take care of people, to never inconvenience anyone. But sometimes as a driver, you will find yourself in someone's way. Example, backing into a parking spot at a truck stop. Especially when you are new, this may take a bit of time, and there will be other drivers waiting to get a round you. Occasionally those other drivers might honk their horn, or yell out the window for you to "hurry it up!" And because we are women who were taught to always be good little girls, we then try to hurry it up and that is when you will make a mistake. Learn to ignore the honking and yelling that sometimes comes your way and DON'T LET THEM MAKE YOU FEEL BAD ABOUT YOURSELF!! If it takes you 20 minutes to back into a parking space safely, so be it.

Silverlayke, you have to do what you have to do. Before you get out of your truck, take a good look around. Be aware of everyone out there. After you get out, just take a look around ever so often. Don't be paranoid, but always be aware of your surroundings.

Texas-Nana, it wouldn't bother me if you called me hon, after all, you're like my, uh, older sister!
It's when they sit in my lap and call me hon, that starts me to thinking, "are they just rubbing my butt, or searching for my wallet?"

    simplyred1962 and silverlayke Thank this.

Aww. :biggrin_2553: I like being called hon! Makes a lonely guy feel loved.:biggrin_25525: I won't fall in love with ya, I promise!

I'd also add that yer gonna need a thick skin, especially if ya spend any time on the CB. 3 things get drivers hot and bothered on the radio: religion, politics, and lady drivers... ah heck, ladies in general. And there definitely seems to be a lack of gentlemen these days, but I suspect the gentlemen just turn off their radios more often these days.

Just remember, there are still alot of us out here that respect other drivers, and women, but really respect women drivers. :yes2557:
