How to work around Electronic logbook??

Because it's the law...
Look, I'm not saying what should be, but what is.

Here's what on-duty means...
on-duty time means the period that begins when a driver begins work or is required by the motor carrier to be available to work, except if the driver is waiting to be assigned to work, and that ends when the driver stops work or is relieved of responsibility by the motor carrier, and

(a) includes driving time and time spent by the driver

• (i) inspecting, servicing, repairing, conditioning, fuelling or starting a commercial vehicle,
  

And here is PC usage...
(b) does not include driving time for the driver’s personal use, if

• (i) the vehicle is not used in the course of the business of the motor carrier,
  

Getting it serviced is business related, thus it's on duty....

 

I didn’t need a break down of what the law is, but thanks. They are forcing guys like myself out. 21 years and three trucks, I’ve had enough. When I can drive a dump truck and be paid a living away allowance tax free, and make more money than I can buying a $200k truck, the system is broken. I love driving and owning a truck, but when the rules forced down our throats no longer make it profitable, why would I?

 

Im driving my personal vehicle to the parts store to pick up filters, oil and a case of grease, then driving back top my truck to service it. Guess what, every minute of it will be logged on duty because that's the freaking law.

So you’re telling me if you’re out with wife/gf picking up groceries, and you grab stuff for the truck too, whatever it might be, let’s call it windshield washer, you go home and log it on your elog?? Come off it.

Logging 100% legal is the only way to protect yourself when the lawyers come knocking.
By law you need to keep maintenance records. If you are the one doing the work it is also supposed to be logged. If in afm accident thre plaintiffs attorneys are going to get your loss and your maintenance records and will compare them. That's just the world we live in. And it doesn't matter if you caused the accident it not, you are getting sued.

 

If im out with my wife at Walmart I don't pick anything up for the truck. However she might grab something for me, using her copy of the business account card.

Obviously I don't have the elog with me to log it as it happens in my personal vehicle, however I'll edit it in once im back at the truck. And why shouldn't I? It won't effect anything when I go back to driving. For me it's all about limiting risk exposure. I've spent 25 years sacrificing in order to create financial stability for my family and im sure as heck not going to risk all that effort so some moron that loses control and side swipes me next week can benefit.

 

How does it not affect your reset?? If you edit your logs to show on duty time in middle of your reset, you’ve just null and voided your reset. There are very few times I’m out and about doing personal things that I don’t also do something for the truck. In that frame of mind, I’d never get a reset in, therefore never having hours to go back to actually making money. BS for sure. I call BS all day long.
