And having your wife “pay” for it, is essentially cheating too. No? Wanna split hairs? With your frame of thinking, dot could obtain store video of you with your wife, picking up truck supplies. Cmon man, you’re telling bs stories now.

Your actually increasing your risk with the edits, no reason to do this this is just an empty argument.

All I know, is a highway tractor is a BAD investment any way you look at it. Why is it a tri axle dump truck in my area can earn $85-$95 an hour, but a highway truck can’t come close to $60? Or a septic truck (yes, there is money in poop) can earn $150/hour? Are they overpaid? Nope. Highway trucks are severely underpaid. No matter what you do with them. I for one have had enough.

It also states that whether you are being paid or not has no determination of duty status. Same could be said about your wife paying for the washer fluid or case of grease at Wally World. You’re with her. You carry it to register, and to vehicle. You’re on duty. If you wanna split hairs that is.

On duty is on duty. It isnt limited to line 4. Ive had this conversation with the folks in the office once or twice before. On paper logs, I NEVER went to line 4. For anything. Ever.
Office: You have to log a 15 min pre-trip
Me: I did. See that "PTI" right there, and that "PTI" for my post trip, thats what it means
Office: But you have to do it on line 4
Me (after handing them the rulebook): show me where it says I cant log it as driving time if I want
Office: Line 3 is ONLY for when you are driving
Me: No, I HAVE to be on line 3 when Im driving. Nothing in the book says I cant be on line 3 when Im not driving
Office: But thats not how it is supposed to work
Me: Look, Ive been in dozens of chicken houses over the years. DOT guys look at my logs several times a month, and I have YET to get a ticket for it
Office: But...
Me: (closes the door behind me on the way out)
By the RULES if you leave the sleeper to go take a piss you have to change your log to "off duty" instead of sleeper berth. That is the law. You have to be IN the berth to use the line on the logs. I havent seen too many DOT guys checking truckstops to make sure guys are logging their sleeper time - piss time correctly.
I mean if you want to log it that way, then God bless you. You do what you want. I wont, but you can if you want. Have a nice day.
(and yes I logged on duty as driving because I only actually drove 7.5 hours a day - dedicated run - and I was in the yard and out of the yard on my way home after about 10-10.5 hours. This was in the day of 10 hours on duty 8 hours off and this silly "half hour break" BS)Last edited: Dec 26, 2019
