I am wondering if anybody knows when your water pump starts to seep a little, how much longer do you have before it is done? I am trying to get back home later this week, so I did not want to get it done on the road. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I figured it was one of those type of things. I guess I'll bite the bullet and just get it taken care of now, before I have a tow bill to go with it. I thank you for responding.

If it is slow drip, I would get it done. But if it is just seeping, like leaking a snail trail down the casting, I wouldn't be afraid to keep going. I have seen more seep for a few days then very gradually get worse than ones that fail right away.

I got pretty lucky. The way this truck is set up the water pump is in a hard to see place. Anyway it turned out to be a hose on the top in between the block, frame rail, and front cover of the engine.

Our water pump went on the Coquihalla highway this past Monday. Engine overheated out of the blue-no advance warning. Engine overheated and quit. Now with the overheating, we need new liners etc. Yup, cooked engine. So, having to have an in-line done on our Cat 3406E-as well as biting the bullet to have our Kenworth towed home (600.00) from Zopkios summit on Coq.

Did you run her out of water or did the water pump shaft break?

Hard to believe it got that hot and did that much damage that quick. I had the shaft break on a 3406E in the mountains of Virgina and it had all kinds of alarms going off. Was your out of water? Walker Cat took care of it quick and even reflashed the computer so it could keep up with the c15 it was running with. Couldn't have been nicer guys.

Gets real hot fast when the water pump impeller or shaft snaps off.Seen lots of overhauls due to this.
