Make my mind up for me

    I have only recieved two prehires out of hundreds of calls and apps. I need a job so it's time to pick. I know they are both low on the totem pole but it is all I have to pick from. Any advice of personal experiences would be great.

    1. Arrow, Tulsa Ok: Physical tarping is a plus. Money per mile a little more. Equipment about the same. A long way from here, 26 hrs by bus, especially if it is so bad I don't last.

    2. LCT, Okahumpka, FL: Reefer, no pre or easy pass, lots of toll roads. Equipment is about like Arrow. A lot closer to me only 150 miles.

    Any first hand current info would be a big help. :biggrin_2554:

    Picking the lesser of 2 evils. Go with Arrow.

    I've heard too many nightmare stories from prior LCT drivers to suit my taste for torture. And many of them were from what I considered to be, reliable and professional drivers.

    If it where me I would pick arrow. Better company IMO.

    I live off I75 ext 39 in Adel Ga. Just about in Fl. As for other companies I have been turned down by all. I went to 3 orientaions in the past 2 yrs. I worked at the same o/o job but he had no insurance or benefits. He new I was attending these orientations. I needed to get better benefits, I have a family. None of the 3 seemed better even with benefits. He paid very well. Anyway, my dac says quit during orientation and satasfactory work but I am considered a job hopper. I never knew attending orientation was a job or I would not have went. My bad. :biggrin_2555:

    Welcome to professional truck driving. :(

    Sadly, this is the state of our industry. And while some think it's a "new" low. It's always been this way, even in good times.

    I worked for Lester Coggins back in 1994, and I'd say avoid them like the clap if they are still anything like what they were back then. I don't imagine they've changed much. Cheap, with crappy freight, and lousy equipment. They haul a lot of plants and flowers, which means a load with 30 stops is not uncommon. Back then, the stop pay was less than impressive. "Well, it adds up..." was the rationale.

    Harvey Gainey owned them back then, and they were the lowest paying of all the Gainey companies.

    I'd say go flatbedding. Arrow will probably let you work up to oversized loads, and if that happens, you get to sleep at night!

    I dont know how Lester Coggins operates, but I just talked with a Gainey driver who said they will stay with the company for as long as he can due to the great way he has been treated. Ultimately, I think it boils down to how good of a driver you are. As with most companies, the better driver you are, the better you get treated.

    Why dont you try a company called SCALES i think they are out of the Tifton area not to far from Adel.

    I would go with Arrow, flatbedding is hard work especially if you have to tarp a lot, not many people like it, you can become a valued employee faster if you work hard and do a good job.

    Some of you guys recommend arrow? really? Honestly you're probably screwed either way. If you do go to arrow expect sh#t equipment, as soon as I finished waiting a week for the turd I had to put in the shop, For a truck that was "ready", Tarps! ha! full of holes, i took them to the tarp shop, they told me to repair them, supplied some patches told me to go buy glue, they also said i could just carry rolls of plastic to put underneath the tarps, oh and you have to buy that too,v-boards?? no go buy the material and make them yourself, you're on the hook for bungies and the winch bar too. Also i can't speak for all drivers but, my dm had the insight and understanding of a pez dispencer. I had a family emergency and had to go home, they did send me to a terminal and offer a bus ticket, never did get the ticket, but i was charged for it.
