Thought I would give an update. I finished orientation and training with Mav, got my truck, and I'm on my first weekend home. With the exception of a mistake at the shipper this morning, all is going good. I do enjoy the work, and hope it continues to work out.
All in all, everything I expected. Again, thanks to everyone for the info. I feel I made a good decision.GoalieDon Thanks this. -

3235 last week. just over 2800 this week. Havent logged on lately, busy runnin, workin round the house, 4 month old babyin', etc etc. For those of you considering Maverick, still lookin for 6mos OTR experience and clean DAC. Once hired on, part of the orientation is meeting your recruiter. No recruiter at maverick will tell you that you will get home every weekend. LISTEN CAREFULLY hear what they say, not what you want to hear. Most drivers would love to hear "we will get you home every weekend" What is actually said is " we will try to get you home every weekend." Ive been with Maverick since December '07: Have I been hung out, YES. but i took the job knowing/understanding/ACCEPTING the fact that i could get hung out. Dont expect to get home for dinner every friday nite and be able to have breakfast with the family every monday morning. Most people spell weekend, w.e.e.k.e.n.d. Most trucking companies spell weekend, r.e.s.t.a.r.t., meaning they try to get you home in time to have a restart. ACCEPT that and it'll make your life easier as a professional driver. Once dispatched on a load, KEEP YOUR DRIVERS DOOR SHUT. meaning point A to point B with limited stops between. If you want to stop at every tourist trap, boobie bungalow, etc along your route, more power to ya but truckstops: seen one seen em all for the most part. IOWA 80 was cool but then again, i stopped there for my 10 hour break, didn't make a special trip. MAINTAIN A POSITIVE ATTITUDE. Keep your glass half full rather than half empty. try to find the positive aspect of everything and dont get sucked into negative conversations. ie. I played horseshoes with some drivers at Mavericks Gary, In. terminal for about 2.5 hours while waiting for my swap to arrive. The entire time some drivers sat outside the terminal complaining about this and that and trying to top each others stories about who had the biggest complaint or worst day. Gotta go for now. Be careful out there and flash your hazards thank you when u pass me by on the road.

I would pick maverick over tmc. Read up on what has been happening at tmc lately. There has been a bunch of posters about tmc lately.
