Paddy and I both wear Caterpillar steel toe boots. They're super comfy (especially with gel insoles), last forever, and look great! They're available at retailers all over the place and online! I wear the steel toe Logger (gellin like Magellin) and Paddy has the Logger, Groundwork, and Alaska. I just might order one of the new Silvertons.

I hope you find a pair you like!

Red Wings. When I was in high school I had some hip problems (one leg was growing a smidge faster than the other), orthopedist sent me to Red Wing for shoes. problem solved. That pair of shoes lasted 10 years.

I once bought a pair of redwings about 15 years ago , worst pair of shoes I have ever owned . They were about $ 120 and lasted 3 months . Supposedly these were the shoes the postal service wore at the time but, I was not impressed at all. I always try to buy American when there is a choice but, I get better longer lasting service from K-mart or Wal-mart shoes.

I got a pair of Hush Puppies at my old job and no joke, they are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn. The longer you wear them the better they feel. Only draw back I have found is it takes a long time to break them in, about 2 mths. They are waterproof also.

    S/N:32101
    P/N:HPP HIKER STEEL-TOE ESD

Hush Puppies Professionals-mine were ESD but I'm sure you can get them non-ESD.

    Probably around $110

    Hope this helps.

Lehigh met guard. $98 and they have a full steel toe and a piece of steel that covers the metatarsal bone in your foot. Basically steel up to the tounge where the laces begin.

Very comfortable after about a day of break in and they last a long time taking a lot of abuse. I like them because they vent heat well in the summer and keep you warm enough in the winter.

We are using Lehigh as our company boot program right now, and they are decent enough shoes. The model I have gotten the last two years is a lightweight toed model with a composite toe in it. They work fine, and keep the weight down.

However, 4 years ago we used Redwings, and I bought a pair of Redwings that are still my primary boot 4 years later. They are a 12 inch tall slip on, steel toed, and they are completely made of a dark brown Cordura nylon, instead of leather. Except for the hard soles, they are completely soft nylon cloth, and are incredibly comfortable. They are completely waterproof, using a Goretex type lining, or at least as waterproof as I can expect from any boot. I wore them on a job once where I was constantly stepping out into 8 inches of lime soaked water at a concrete plant, and it took three nights of this before i felt any moisture on my socks, and I felt they had kept up their end of the bargain at that point.

One point to consider when boot shopping is the color of the boot. If you are out on hot concrete ramps or hot asphalt surfaces, a light colored boot will go a long way in keeping your feet comfortable. I always go for the lightest colors I can find, and my feet thank me for it. I wore black flight deck boots for 20 years in the Navy, and now can;t even consider owning a pair of black boots. One, they would be way too hot, and secondly, old habits would lkick in and I would instinctively start polishing the darn things. I left boot polishing behind when I retired! LOL!

I have a huge problem with that, I polish my black boots and I cuss the truck out every time the clutch will catch the toe and scuff it up.
