Well, if it does get closed, You've made your point. So at this point, there's really nothing lost.

I understand now why you would want to lease on to somebody, even though you have your own authority. Frankly, it's the same reason I'm leased on to Schneider. There's a lot of folks out there who have no idea just how much BS there is involved in just keeping the truck on the road.....IFTA alone who drive me to madness. Furthermore, "negotiating" rates with some low life that I probably would't even speak to in any other circumstance is not something I would embrace.

Sure, I pay Schneider 35%. But for that 35% I get........
    1. Established, non negotiated rates.......it is what it is and it pays what to pays. Like it or leave it, it's completely up to you. Furthermore, while everyone was chasing crappy spot market rates last year, I was running on contracted rates and as a result, my gross and net are better than 2018 and I'm pretty sure I didn't run any harder.
    2. Free trailer
    3. 100% back office. I send my statement at the end of the year to my CPA and there are no questions. Frankly, because Schneider does such a good job of back office, I'm probably over paying my CPA.
    4. Really cheap insurance. All in, I'm at less than $140 a week.
    5. No receivable issues whatsoever. If the customer doesn't pay, it's not my problem.
    6. Running for a respected company. Some people may laugh at that, but it means a lot when you can bypass 50% or more of the weigh stations.
    7. Probably most of all......they leave me alone. It is rare that I get any messages on my QualCom about a shipment. I book it, pick up and deliver on time as agreed to in the shipment description, and roll on. I have gone as long as a month or more without speaking to anyone from Schneider.

So, with all that said, I really get it.
Good luck. (I think Maverick might be worth looking into).

You said it all. Most guys don’t understand all the work that goes in to having your own authority. Driving is only half the work. As much as I hated Mercer it sure was nice not having to worry about the administrative garbage. That’s why I’m considering signing on somewhere else.

I had some smartaleck comments early on in this thread and the one about tracking their trailer. I’d like to apologize for those because clearly at the time there was a lot more going on than you could share.

Call it being lazy or whatever, but I’m leased on to a friends authority to save money on insurance and to not have to deal with paperwork. I could have my own authority and do the exact thing I’m doing right now but I choose not to. Right now it’s not worth it to me because I don’t feel I have the time to handle everything, and I’m not crazy about my insurance doubling or tripling just to have my own name on the side of the truck. So I get why you’d want to lease on somewhere.
