    Hello.

I have recently upgraded to my class 1. I have had my class 3 lic for the past 3-4 YEARS. And have been working primarily in the towing and recovery industry, driving light duty, medium duty wreckers, and tandem axle deck trucks. I have a clean abstract/ My question like many post i have read already. Is how or where can i go for experience. I have phoned and talked to 20 plus companies recruiting staff, and they are either not hiring or want more experienced drivers. And the driving i have been doing seems to be worth nothing. Its not that i do not like towing its just most companies out there are either questionable, or dont offer other incentives to keep employees. (benefits, reg pay, time off) And you have to do dangerous things like drive for days without sleep and lie totally on log books to keep working (my wife would ride with me to keep me awake) I am notproud of this but if you dont conform you dont work and since it is usally commision means no pay . And thus makes a poor career decison.
So i ask the question like many, where can i go to get proper experieance or a class 1 job. I live in Edmonton Alberta, but am willing to relocate within alberta.

    Thanks

I know Arnold Bros. Transport is looking for guys to do BC/Alberta hauling containers (mainly Red Deer/Calgary to Vancouver). Other than that just keep on looking and you'll find something, that's what I'm doing.

Try oilfiled service companies. You are in Edmonton, there are tons of trucking companies that haul crap into the woods and most of them will be desperate this winter. I work for a service company and I got my class one threw them. Try Trican, Sanjel, Schlumberger, BJ services etc. They all have a few service lines with lots of different trucks to get experience on. The pay is pretty #### good too.

Yah it seems what you have done before the class 1 dosnt mean a thing but hualing a car behind the wreacker is a lot different than hauling a trailer that is 45000 pound plus. the oilfiled companies might be a good bet but I know it's slow for them right now and have let people go earlier in the year. I hate to say it but you could try H&R they might not be the best but its a foot in the door. or even bison. It's going to be tough right now not many places hireing. Good Luck to you

Actually there are quite a few trucking companies hiring right now in Alberta. As for oilfield I have heard that Trican might be lifting their hiring freeze and I heard rumors that Sanjel has had an add in the paper in Red Deer lately. Sanjel is where I currently work, they are not paying great right now but as soon as it picks up I am sure they will roll our wages back up where they were( the highest frac company in Red deer).
