I have a 2020 Peterbilt 579 with the AWFUL Collision Mitigation system and I have a question regarding the hookup for tweaking the settings or hopefully disabling the whole idiotic thing all together.
First of all, I do NOT want it. I do NOT need it. There is nothing within this galaxy that could convince me otherwise, period. Second, dealer won’t touch it. Third, our mechanic won’t touch it even though they told me if I can get rid of it without screwing up the truck...I could do it, so I have permission to atleast try to save my sanity. Whoever made this system needs one good punch to the nose every single time that thing beeps at me. (Thousands of times per day)
According to the manufacturer, (Bendix) they have a free software download on their website that will allow you to take your laptop computer & hook up to your truck thru the diagnostic port on drivers side under dash and with this software you would be able to download new parameters for the Collision Mitigation, Lane Guidance, & Adaptive Cruise Control systems.
Only problem is, even though the software is free, they want like $600 for the diagnostic cables that go between laptop & truck diagnostic port. No freakin way! I’m not paying dealer prices for one either and I can’t get any sticky fingers on the one laying around our shop. Does anybody know where I could get one of these complete cable kits that don’t have any kind of lockout or BS like that? Surely there is one out there for less than $600! I’m afraid of anything on Amazon or eBay, because of all the protections these truck computers have on them nowadays. I have an HP laptop with Windows 10 and several USB & micro-USB ports in it.
If I could just drive down the road without that beeping.... I would be one happy, happy, hap hap happy dude!! It might not sound bad, but believe me...IT IS torture! Please help me...I’m going legit crazy over here!
Thanks, drivers!

Nexiqs are expensive. The chinese copys are half price but don't work all the time. Best bet is to find a shop that is willing to work with you. They cant disable it, but the settings can be calmed down so it take longer before it starts beeping for following distances/lane departure
Trucker2211 and spsauerland Thank this. -
try something stupid and see if it works i've seen a few trucks come thru here with aluminum foil wrapped around the front sensor you want to maybe give this a shot as there is no way i know how to disable this system anymore dealer will not touch them being that they consider them safety equipment and are afraid of lawsuits, that thing causes more problem and accident than it avoids in my opinion.

I do appreciate the suggestion though & I agree with you 110% about the dangerous nature of the system. I am seriously dreading the winter time now because of the slick roads and the automatic braking that I cannot prevent from happening. I want to be in control of MY truck that I’M responsible for at all times. If this things makes me wreck, I swear I’ll be CEO of Bendix by the time it’s over! -
So the people that have the aluminum foil have alsways said normal operation I think it’s worth giving it a shot. I don’t believe anyone will be able to remove this.

Try diesellaptops.com
They have some cheaper options and make thier OEM cables, etc. You'll probably have to contact them, as thier "adapters & cables" section is more than 10 pagesTrucker2211 Thanks this. -

Just cleaned it and put the black tape over the one on the bumper and over an eye on top of the windshield in the middle for the lane change
