FedEx Freight Everett, WA - Road Driver

    FedEx Freight seems like a really good opportunity.

    I recently applied for a road driver position out of Everett, WA. They sent me a message saying that they were interested in speaking with me and that someone would be in touch in the next few days. I'm pretty excited.

    My questions are: What do I expect next? I assume the phone call and then an interview if they like what I have to say. I feel like they are the type of company to ask questions like: Name a time when you were faced with an unexpected situation. How did you deal with it? Am I right? What comes after that?

    It seems that Road Driver is a better opportunity than City P&D. I know I'll probably get the worst routes at first. What can you tell me about this specific terminal? Good? Bad?

    Essentially, guide me through this process and through training. I've never operated a forklift, but I don't expect it'll be too difficult. Tell me anything that you think is relevant or specific to this terminal.

    A recruiter will call you first. They will tell you about the pay and work schedule. They will also verify your employment from the past three years. If you listed any accidents on your application, they will want you to verify the specific details.

    If the manager of the terminal is interested in doing an interview, he will call you. On the interview, he will ask scenario questions about past work experience. I will admit, it was a tough interview for me. He asked me like five questions.

    While I can’t give info on this location specifically, be wary of coming into being the bottom of the board linehaul driver during the winter time, as well as going into an election year.

    During your interview, ask whether you will be an extra board driver. If so, how many extra board drivers above you. If you will have a bid, how often is it being cut due to lack of freight?

    More forklift driving/freight handling than truck driving.
    FedEx Freight has been slow since last winter.
    The big LTL companies laid off alot of drivers this year. Slow until spring every year.

    If you want to drive, more miles at FedEx Ground contractors.
