If so, what kind?

Pilot dash cam. They are cheap and do the job.
-
They have horrible reviews though

Maybe they do... all I can say is that is what I have and no problems yet.lovesthedrive Thanks this.

GoPro is ok. They don't have the storage to record for very long. They work well for general recording but don't do well for a dash cam.
They don't record for very long, they don't loop record overwriting whatever you don't want to save. They just record all the time and it will fill up your storage too quickly. You can't even pull an 8 hour stint before needing to clear the storage... Not good for a driver.
A cheap dedicated "dash cam" is better as it only saves what you want it to. You don't need to stop and babysit as much.
Not too cheap, the data seems to be easily corrupted with the cheap units.Fredterbert6666 and tscottme Thank this. -
Yea the gopro would probably be a pain to use. I already have one that I never used so I thought I try it as a dashcam then probably get a normal one that loops. I found a few for around 50$ that arent too bad. Ill probably get one

I’ve tried different ones and now I use the VAVA Dash cam.
