    If it is a Volvo
    It is set to idle below 40 degrees or 70 and above. Keep in mind the temperature on your dash it's not necessarily the temperature outside. These trucks can vary a lot from the actual temperature. I've had mine reading 42 degrees when it was 21 degrees outside. Another trick you can use is buying a few hand warmers watch the Youtube video on where to locate your thermostat under the hood. Wrap your hand warmer around that and the truck will think it's much hotter than it is. Enjoy it while you can because in April we are getting the new zero idle freightliners.

    The maintenance big wig stated 35 to 75 as a no idle zone. He wondered why drivers were not using the bunk heaters. After last night night at 17, I can clearly tell him that the bunk heaters don't keep the truck warm on the inside and they are loud. THUMP.....THUMP.....THUMP, all night long. (No idea what that is but it is enough to keep me awake.)

    I was told from the same person that 20 new Freightliners were coming in for testing. Electric APU? Sign me up, warm in the winter and cool in the summer. And whisper quiet. The downside is that the old tech is based off of the old batteries in the trucks that limited running the APU before you had to recharge the batteries by running the truck. I will be interested in seeing what kind of batteries come in these trucks. The new lithium batteries...hmm, interesting. (Expensive, but interesting.)

    They come with 4 extra batteries and they are gel about 700 for the 4

    We're testing 20 trucks?
    That's a lot of trucks when you only have 105. He's full of crap. Anybody with a Volvo won't have anything to even worry about for two more years. I personally don't like the bunk heater because it will not maintain temperature. It's either 50° in your truck or 90°. I don't care what temperature you set it on. Typically the Volvo's are set to auto anything below 40 degrees + 70 or above. And it goes by the temperature on your dash now what might be the actual outside temperature. However I simply pushed the tractor break in and it will idle regardless of temperature. However the new freightliners will not do that. They will not idle regardless. The 2020 freightliners have a lot of new features coming that the current ones do not. This charging system it's supposed to be one of those things. Personally I don't care as long as I can run my AC. I am very hot natured and I don't deal with heat very well especially when I'm trying to sleep. I'm about 2 years from a new Freightliner but hopefully the new technology is up to par.

    I am in a Volvo 2019, so I am good. When I told him that the bunk heater did not keep the truck warm at 17 outside, he suggested I pull the coffin curtains. I nodded to him and decided to idle the truck when it was that cold. It is always easier for those that are not dealing with the issue, to tell you how to deal with the issue.

    I don't worry about it.
    Like I said I've never been able to get the temperature right on mine.. and if you hang your foot off the bed you'll get a third degree burn with that thing running.
