Over length question

As I read what you attached I read that it would mean the trailer, although 6' rear and 3' front on a 48' trailer and a 65' max length leaves 8' for the tractor....a small cabover would be the only way to haul 57' loads without a permit.

 

I agree. Which is why some tractors built with long frame for that work. Hang it off the front of flatbed deck without need for permit.

 

On a car hauler the 3 and 6 were specifically for ONLY stinger steer combos 6 off the back 3 over the FRONT bumper, There is NO FEDERAL allowance for overhang on a high mount car carrier, you are limited to 65 feet overall. BUT the 3 and 6 on a stinger combo was superseeded 3 years ago with the FAST act, i believe the statue is 5520, overhang on stinger combos is now 4 and 6 AND this is on an 80 foot combo So technically you can go 90 feet total.

 

Car hauler specs would not apply, in your case on a 53 trailer It ALL depends on the state or states you want to run in, there is no fed statue only state laws.

 

Keep reading. Many states have a 53 foot total load length. So if you got a 53 ft flat that means zero over hang. You need to research thre regs for each individual state you will be running in.

 

Then you should be fine, only reason i am familiar with this is that i used to run a bunch of spread axle low boys to all 48, so i had to be up on it. And you also do NOT have to conform to the 65 ft deal either, your tractor could be 30 ft long with a 53 trailer. The overhang is the only issue and that is state by state.

 

Yep spyder is right, some state are nothing off either end some states are nothing off the back and some states are only concerned with LOAD length, not overhang
