Because I don’t want to be 60 years old and still be forced to work by nature. I’m shooting to put an end to this permanently before 40, but I believe I can do it by 35. So far, my numbers look promising.
Yes, what I do is unorthodox, but that is exactly why I am where I am in life. The world is full of problems. I believe most of them are much simpler to solve than anyone thinks. The problem is we haven’t thought about the problems long enough. We don’t think enough. We don’t try enough. We don’t push ourselves enough. We give in to our biology.

This is NOT about Miles,Hours,Time on Duty,...None of that.
This Boils down to "Control" I mean,Im reading thru this thread and you guys are on pins and needles with your DOT inspections, Like your in the Army or something, Or in School and its report card day. You guys are out here running around "Am I doing everything right?" Not a way to live
Your an Adult-An American,And a Trucker- Have some Pride- Stand Tall, Question Things......
I Know this probably doesn't matter to you because you make $77k per year hauling a tanker.......But the Majority of Haulers out here need backbone,And Better Yet "Fair and Honest" rules and obligations that are "Fair" for everyone. Not to Benefit 1 side.Bean Jr. Thanks this. -
I have been told drivers have been questioned for starting the truck while on sleeper. And advised it's not a good idea to start the truck while on line 2.
My answer is to let the darn thing idle if I believe it will need it, nice when it doesn't but it covers lots of issues for me, and we don't have a company policy.
Other thing is that the clock stays on as long as the engine runs, off duty or sleeper are counted as off duty, the grid and hos accessed while on the grid will give available drive time especially when a split break can be used. -
What’s fair? I don’t thing we will ever have a solution that’s fair for everyone. There’s a reason I don’t ever haul two food grade loads back to back. If you know the rules inside and out you can exploit them to your advantage. A friend of mine from Idaho Falls started floor loading all his spuds going east and floor loading his sweet potatoes coming back out of AR so he can use the Ag exemption.
As far as the protests back in 2017, I didn’t feel like that group was a good representation for me so I didn’t voice support for them. Anyone who runs around throwing the bird at the tv camera and spray painting the side of their truck like that one lady is on the same level as someone who tosses their poop bag out in the parking lot.
Where would the energy be better focused? On something that’s already been here for 2 years and would take an act of Congress to turn around? Or trying to keep speed limiters from coming down the pike? This could be another example of putting the energy in the wrong spot like when OOIDA challenged the first electronic logging mandate.
And for what it’s worth, I own my truck so your number is pretty low. LolPE_T Thanks this. -
