I typically give the throwout bearing and cross shafts a couple shots every 2nd week. Don't want too much grease inside the bellhousing but you also gotta keep those moving parts lubricated too.

How can the pilot bearing be ruled out with the clutch out? It is a bearing after all. It turns with the engine even if the transmission is stopped. What am I overlooking?

SAR, Goodysnap and spsauerland Thank this.

Not sure what I was thinking when reading your post. Senior moment.

just little update on this.so after replacing with new clutch, new pilot bearing, cut flywheel, new mounts and rebuild transmission the rattle noise is gone
the shop tore down my old transmission and said the input shaft had excessive wear on it and the clutch pedal forks were wore out really bad. nothing major in the transmission it self.just normal wear.SAR, BoxCarKidd and SmallPackage Thank this. -
