You were their critical mistake ! Underwriter was drunk that day ! JK
Never hear this quotes in car hauling for starters unless they in god knows where ... Even dry van quotes are higher for beginners

I got a quote from Progressive last month,( November 2019) on reactivating my authority. Quote is for North Carolina based. Annual Cost around $11,000 or so Something like $900/month x 10 plus downpayment of $1800. This is for unlimited mileage, 250k cargo, auto hauling enable but will primarily have general freight on flatbed. Physical damage coverage around 85k for my truck and trailer.

Progressive do not do California so i got a California insurance broker to quote me at around $25k to 30k for same coverage based out of California.

Looks like i am moving out of CA.

My current quote is decent and rates have went down drastically because Progressive said they just redid their price restructuring that will benefit carriers. 3 years ago, my Progressive policy cost $1600 a month in NC. 3 years prior to that when I reactivated my authority, i was paying monthly for $650 with Progressive. Then they kept raising premium every year for no good reason until i gave up my authority at $1600/month. No tickets claim, etc. My authority have been active on and off for past 15 years. No claims, accident, tickets in last 10 years.

I am worried that they quoted me low to lured me to restart my Authority and will keep raising the premium back to $1600+ to $2k monthly. These high rates was why I gave up my authority in the first place.

I have a friend who works for an enclosed car hauling company that hauls mostly high end exotic cars in enclosed 6 car trailers. Their insurance is $52,000 a year per truck. They’re packing in it after over ten years in business.
They’re selling the trucks and trailers and turning their shop into a truck repair and fab shop. Between declining rates, cut throat competition and insane insurance rates they’ve had it.

Yeah. I always thought they had the world by the balls , nice large car Peterbilts , featherlite and Kentucky enclosed trailers, dealing with high end clientele etc... That was all true , but the recent insurance increases and competition
Killing their rates made it not worth it anymore for the owner. Owning a truck repair shop isnt a bed of roses either. The owner of the company isn’t a mechanic and his only mechanic , , ,who is a real good mechanic and fabricator is pushing 60 years old .Finding good diesel mechanics today is harder than finding good drivers . Getting paid as an independent repair shop is another story too.....

Got the IRP and IFTA plates today. We think we’re ready to roll. I got a question if anyone has knowledge of the subject. I saw a ram 5500 not to uncommon but it had a class 8 fifth wheel? Does anyone know the pros and cons of such a tandem?
