I recently got my cdl 10 months ago. I’m taking a job with a guy that owns 2 trucks. Both trucks years are 2019 and 2020. New equipment. Paying me 1200 a week. 2 loads a week. Route is from Utah to Southern California. I also live in Las Vegas Nevada so I’d be home often with my 2 days off plus whatever during the week passing through. Drop and hook only. Question is, is this a good offer? I have about 3 months experience with dry van from western express however I left because I was making $300 to $475 a week. In your opinions is this a good thing for me as a new driver? I mean as for the pay it is better but I’d like some feedback from you experienced drivers. Thank you in advance

I dont see a problem... i only say that because where im from they want an arm and a leg for 1200 with any experience... thats only because they keep lowering the bar and drivers are accepting it... but if anything itll say get your feet planted with a consistent check and some stable income til you find a better opportunity... only if the o/o dont have any other bull shxt attached to that price. I had to learn when to chase the bag and when to sit back and observe.... dont take my word for it ... im just saying ... oh yeah i dnt live on the west coast either so idk how difficult of a route that is but if its peaches ill take it but once again ill keep my eye open only for a better opportunity... and sometimes its not even about the biggest dollar because the ones that pay more will have u stressed the hell out... idk

I agree with truckdriver31, sounds like a step up, especially the route for you sounds ideal. Pay is a tricky thing. If it is a 1099, you have to pay all the other stuff.( taxes, health insurance, SS) It's like you're an O/O driving someone elses truck. You need to find that out, and why there is an opening. It sounds like a much better deal than you had, but ask questions. You know the old saying, if something sounds too good to be true, it usually isn't. Good luck.

It pays more than the 300 to 475 a week that you were making. Easy decision. Money is everything!

For 1099 that is about average pay. SLC to socal is a easy trip. You also get to stop by Las Vegas very often.

Is your boss looking to hire any more drivers? I live in Las Vegas and have been looking for this type of job?

What part of Southern California? If the load is going to Los Angeles or Long Beach then it should pay a little more. Compared to going to the IE cities San Bernardino, Fontana, etc....

Also do the load pickup in salt Lake City only? There are a few shippers couple hours north of Salt Lake City
