A decade ago, there was a driver that I and Carl (a former member, owner op who pulled a 13 axle) both knew a driver that had pulled every superload known to Man, had ZERO claims, perfect record, 19 axle or bigger, won truck rodeos and heavy haul rodeos, and the ATA driver of the year, the very best of the best. And had all the records to prove it. Well, in the end, he proved mortal Fell in love with a female pilot car driver that distracted him from his mission. Got into his head, pissed him off, and in a drunken rage, he pushed her vehicle around the parking lot with his 4 axle truck and fled from the North Dakota HP. The Minnesota hp finally got him. All of those decades of impeccable work...gone.
He was a great dude. I remember helping him work on a church bus in zero degree weather to insure that Bible thumpers get safely home. he was a better driver than I could ever imagine being, but he lost focus of his purpose and started thinking with his pickle. Makes me paranoid, because he was better than me. And that's not easy for an arrogant A Hole to admit.
You will hear war stories, you will hear drivers talking grand things. This guy had the trophies and the awards and the record. This driver was one of the reasons why I wrote this thread

One more things:
The bigger the load gets, the smaller your circle of peers get. It's not about what company you drive for, but the name of the driver behind the wheel. Doesn't matter if he is an owner op or a company schmuck. All the top guys will know of each other. Thus KoolAid drinkers who think their company name actually means something have absolutely no clue. The trucking company doesn't matter. The driver's name is all that matters on the top end of the performance sector.jldilley, FerrissWheel, feldsforever and 9 others Thank this. -
And the same applies to crane operators......
FerrissWheel, blairandgretchen, beastr123 and 3 others Thank this. -
I'd wager that whoever is 'king' of the heavy haul world (if such a person exists) probably keeps a very low profile. You won't see him at the truck stop lunch counter telling everyone how great he is, or bragging about all he has done.
A silent professional.FerrissWheel, jldilley, feldsforever and 13 others Thank this.
