What are the best tires out there? Are retreads a good deal compared to new tires? How about those extra wide tires that work in place of two normal sized tires?
Does anyone know if there is a deal for buying a 4 or 6 pack of tires?
thanks!

You can get a deal on multiples. Super-singles require a rim swap too.. costly switch-over.
What you up to??? -
need to know more about your specific operation to properly answer that

I have switched to Dunlap's. Goodyear now owns them. You can get Goodyear's top of the line tire, In the Dunlap for $ 100.00 to $ 150.00 less per tire and the only Difference is the name on the side wall. They are made in the same plant from what I heard. So far the one's I put on are doing just great. Drives have 133,000 and from the way they are waring I will get more than that before I have to replace them. The Steers I put on about 80,000 miles ago and they still look new with no irregular ware at all. As far as caps go I will use them on my trailer, but not on the tractor.

Whatever you do, do not put Michelin's on the front. Darn things will give the truck a shimmy that will darn near throw you off the road. Hubby had alignment, total front end check, etc. -turned out to be the darn Michelins, that he didn't even have 38,000 miles on. He talked to a buddy of his in the States-and darn if his friend didn't have to take his new Michelin's off the front-made the darn truck shake and shimmy. So the Michelin's are on the back and doing fine. But never on front-too darn dangerous!

Put some new Firestone steer tires one day last week $325 each. I wanted Michelins but MY GOODNESS not at $490 each YIKES!!!!
After the Firestones were mounted I took the truck directly to my alignment guy so he could balance the tires on the truck. He cringed when he saw the Firestones, and shook his finger at me. When I went back to pick up the truck later that day, he confessed they had turned out to be the best balanced tires he had seen in a long time. We shall see...
Personally I don't like super singles. Feels like your steering a squishy turd down the road, but I have only limited exp with them. -

I run all position tires 3 seasons out of the year. I swear I save at least 0.5 mpg, maybe even a whole 1 mpg unloaded.

I put a new Firestone Steer on last week as well. Cost was $342 and it was 11R24.5 FS507.
What I did NOT know was that most places will not retread a tire that is older than 5 years. That kinda changes my plans for what to do with the steers when I replace them.
