Do I really need to attend one of these schools?
Or can I study for the test, pass it. Then take the driving part of it, pass it.
And then I'm good to go??
Or is it that you need a certain amount of hours behind the wheel?

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

It would be a good idea to get formal training. I do NOT recomend Road Master or TDI. They are known to be driver mills. National Training Inc. out of Orange Park is one of the better school around the area, and nationally accredited. If you need any info about them, or want to go there, let me know. Great school went there myself. 334 hours of training. 174 class hours at home online in your own time, 3 weeks at the school, 2 hours of class review each day M-F, then nothing but DRIVING!!! If that doesn't speak for itself, then I don't know. Just let me know, I'll help you on your way.

Update: 08/10/09
I'm one step closer to driving!!! Final paperwork went in for Wil-Trans. It looks like they'll be sending me a bus ticket in about a week. Finally someone's giving me a chance to show them how hard I work and how good I drive!learning Thanks this. -
Can you explain the schedule a little more?
You say at home? So basically online, and then where is the 2 hours of class review? (there or home) And then the driving, where do go, and when, etc, ?
Thank you for the information -
Yes you need the school, but it's still tough to find a driving job. Florida is one of the worst states to reside in.........
-
Yeah say that agian.Starting to think Florida is the worst state to live in if your are a professional truck driver, and what also sad is local driving gigs which are offer by temp serivces only offer $10 to $12 bucks and hour plus you have to load and unload.Heck a dish washer makes more money.
-
Yes, all of the online part of class is at home. 33 lessons to be exact, first 20 lessons prepare you for the CDL permit test, and other driver knowledge, such as log books, D.O.T. rules, etc. You must complete all 33 lessons with a grade of 75% or better before National considers you for a spot at their school. Each one has twenty test questions at the end. 2 hours of class review comes when you actually get to the school. You will be there 10 hours a day 7-5:30 M-F. On the grounds they will have you doing backing maneuvers the first day, driving on the 1.5 mile track by day 3, on the road by day 4. You will drive to 5 different cities on different days, in different environments, such as tight country roads, busy highways (I-95 for example), downtown traffic, truck stops, fuel stops, etc, etc. There's even a night drive!!! What school does any of this? That's why they' re one of the best. Send me a private message with your contact info, if you want and tell you how to get set up. Just let me know.learning Thanks this. -
Ouch... ok now I'm getting a little worried that I shouldn't be trying to do this.
-
The forum is saying you have your private messenger turned off.
Is the classroom part of it for one week? -
Yeah tell me about it,I walk in a temp serivce office one time and girl offer me a local gig, dont recall what was being deliver, anyway, sign all the tax papers etc without asking the pay.Well the next day when I meet the boss,I ask what is the pay,he reply $10 an hour,I said WHAT!
So I called the temp serivce lady and she said yeah, pay is $10 an hour plus I had load and unload items all day. This was a 53ft trailer in a day cab.Never again I apply for a local gig again, well not at lease in florida, lol.
learning Thanks this.
