Saw this article today in Car & Driver, seems we're not the only ones frustrated with todays electronics...
Midwest Farmers Are Tired of Tech-Loaded Tractors They Can’t Fix -
if a farmer has been farming for decades, and is a part of the family that has owned that farm for over a century, why does he need a GPS to tell him where to plow, or how to plow? or whether or not it's going to rain or be sunny.?? what the heck did thier ancestors do before electricity and indoor plumbing started getting into the farm house?
i can go along with power steering, and a/c, and even heat if need be.
but from my perspective and only as an outsider, i think it to be hogwash that farming equipment needs all sorts of electronics. this nonsense just drives up the farmers costs, which then gets passed down to us lowly consumers. -
Because those GPS enabled tractors are basically self driving. Run the field once in 'record mode' or whatever it's called and then hit playback for every other pass of the field. Driver can basically nap (if he can over the noise and movement of the tractor) or most likely pay more attention to the 10' in front whatever he's doing then focuses on 100 yards in front.
I'm thinking if spraying watching for clogs and even spray, while tilling watching for rocks, while harvesting watching for dead animals, etc.The Biggest Dawg Thanks this. -
well then, let's do away with the farmer and his family a;together, and make all farms robotic?
i mean if the farmer can take a nap (if he wanted to) then i see no more of a need for the human element in farming?
come to think of it......
isn't that what some are trying to do...with robotic trucking..???? -
Farmer can perhaps hire out tractor work to someone only skilled enough for a steering wheel holder...good considering how few people are applying for the job nowadays...or do some of the mountains of paperwork (laptop computer probably) that goes with the territory now... Farming isn't what it used to be...
