so im going to need to order stacks for my 359 here soon. plan on going with 8" stacks. have a few questions. i need to hit a very specific overall higth on my stacks. my shop door is 12'0 so i basically want to hit 11'11"...lol i cant really tell from the pictures online how exactly the sections fit together im assuming i should be able to "trim to fit" so to speak. but they have different length spool sections as well as top sections. is there a guide somewhere someone can point me to figure out what lengths i should order.

also do people have any brand preferences looking for good value for the price. also is stainless really worth the price difference over chrome?

I have 7” stacks from Lincoln Chrome. I went with them because I wanted a single piece stack. My exh setup with a 96” stack has me around 12”3. Them and Dynaflex have catalogs you can download and they have height guides in them. Im guessing you’re gonna want a 44” top stack.

Some stack parts cannot be cut to length because they are designed to be put together with built in slip joints.
If you are going with a one piece straight stack measure height from were you want the elbow to the height you are shooting for and get the closest length to it that is not taller than you want.

after searching threw a few dynaflex pdf's i found this one. that makes a lot of sense. so basically your spool section should be the length of the centers between your cab brackets and then the length from center of your top bracket determines your overall.

i don't know why this bit of information isn't in more places. iv spent a fair bit of time trying to figure this out already....lol

now if they could just show how the pieces slip over each other. if the top slips over the spool fine tuning the overall should be pretty easy.

Well, you had me and you lost me. I think those big stacks are like those 22 inch clown wheels on classic cars. The styling of the truck was not made for 8" stacks. Sorry, you got an old timers truck, that's an old timers advice. Regular stacks.

Stainless actually discolors a bit and needs polished once a year to be showroom. I think Lincoln has come out with chromed stainless now. Probably exspensive but cost of cool ain't cheap!

Stainless is worth the price difference over chrome. It never rusts or peels off and it holds its shine almost forever without needing polishing. However I’ve never known anybody to pay the price for stainless exhaust parts and I don’t know if i’ve ever seen a working truck with them either. Not sure how it would do with the heat. I know cars have lots of stainless exhaust parts and they all seem to turn brownish burnt looking in color. Much higher temps in car exhaust though.

Yeah only place you could trim for height would be the top. Pretty sure the top section slips into the center section and elbow slips into the center as well. I must also say I think 8s are to much for your ride. I'd do no more than 7s and no picket elbows. But just my opinion. Truck is looking good either way

7’s fit perfect on my 388. Ive got over the frame exh because I have PTO shaft under the truck for my blower and I agree with @lester stick to little bit smaller pipe with the 68 degree elbows. Ive got 5” customer made elbows on mine but need to redo everything because I kept the elbows frame mounted and used slider pins on the top mounts but that was a bad idea the squeaking and rattling drives me nuts. Ive got everything to cab mount the stacks and then flex pipe over the frame but dont have the time right now.
