This is the Afc diaphragm on backside of pump against engine block. A 5/16 or 3/8 hard line goes into it from aftercooler. The rubber diapragm well shrink and leak do to the ULSD fuels used today. image.jpg

Those old 350’s only had around 1050-1100 ft lbs of tourque at 1600 rpm. 350 hp at 2100 unless it was a Formula than it was at 1950 rpm. Operating range 1600-2100 rpm. 28 lbs max of manifold pressure is normal. The old gauges would only go to 30 and never peg. Fuel psi at rail could be anywhere depending on cpl from 180 to 240. Fuel mileage problems may be due to wrong injectors installed at one time or injectors need clean and calibration. Oil in the intake sounds like bad turbo at one time and intake and after cooler not claened out very good.

The lower torque ratings is the main reason why all the older trucks would use 4.11,4.33,4.44,4.88 rears with 13’s to pull the grades and to just not work the engine so hard to maintain speeds. 3:55’s and 3.90’s will work but if you are used to the big modern torque you will always think you are under powered.
