image.jpg Ok. I can see a problem with the plumbing they put on there.
    1) yes. They did plumb in the afc. Without That it well screw all kinds of things up. That controls fuel output vs. boost. It uses the boost psi to lower or raise fuel psi. during throttle and also helps control smoke. Looks like the fitting might be fubar’d tho cause i see somekind of red/orange sealeant on it at the pump.

You should NOT have fuel coming out of that fitting it only senses air psi pumped into the intake from turbo. If you have fuel in that line the diaphragm is BAD and needs replaced. $10 part tops.

Are you saying that it was connected in the old picture but you do not have it connected now?
If you have it connected and when you accel on the throttle you are getting up to 28 psi of boost and haze a little smoke or puff some during shifts and are still pulling in your top couple of gears and don’t haze a lot if any at a steady cruise I believe the fuel pump and turbo are set right. Fuel mileage issues can be mismatched injectors or timing if the pump and turbo are right.
Its a culture shock to operate an old mechanical if you are used to the newer box controlled big torque boys. Much different feel and the power has to be made and maintained at your foot a different way.

Yes everything is connect and I’m getting 25 to 28 psi all the time but not enough torque and power I own cat c15 500 hp and it’s lot different from this big cam and I don’t know if I buy this truck with something wrong with this engine or if was specking too much out

Nothing wrong with it my friend.
You are just used to a engine that has 200 more hp and 1200-1400 ft lbs more torque and a lower operating range.

    Roberts450 Thanks this.

Yes. That kind of power can be made from a big cam but I personally have never wanted to push one like that. Always just tweeked ‘em a little and used them for what they are. Never had the extra $ to do that. They do the same work just a different way. They are getting more rare as the days go by. And as you are finding out less guys are still around that “understand” them. I believe in another 15 -20 years the same thing will start to happen to the Cats too. Who knows Maybe sooner with epa crap.
I can’t help you with the “hot rod” part of it, because it’s gonna take different cam, pistons, timing, injectors, pump specs and $$$ to do what you want.
You will still have to relearn how to operate the Big cam even if you got that kind of power because you won’t have the ecm keeping it from burning down or blowing up. No offense but with the ol’ mechanicals you have to be smarter than the engine cause there is no ecm to think for you.

So it’s not worth putting lot $$$ into this engine here where I live in Massachusetts I can’t find no mechanic that knows this engine looks like everyone is retired and parts become hard to find too
