I was pulled over by state trooper in New Mexico and he gave me a "Warning" for speeding in a rural road. My question is, he gave me a letter "DRIVER/VEHICLE EXAMINATION REPORT" wich the "Motor carrier mus sign and return within 15 days" to New Mexico Motor Transportation Division by fax or mail. Anybody here know how they use this information?
Do you think its gona be a big problem if i don't send back it signed to them?
What can be the consequences of this?
I affraid to show this to my employer, i dont think it will be show great to the company. Anybody have a idea? They request signature, title and date.
Thanks.

That is a paper given when they do an inspection, not for a speeding ticket.
This says they inspected the truck, the driver or both.
And any issues they found.
Typically if they ask it to be sent back it means they found an inspection violation on the truck, and want to see that it got fixed.
All tickets and official DOT paperwork legally has to go to the carrier. -
I had the exact same thing in La. about 10 years ago. Cop stopped me for doing 45 in a 35 construction zone. He said he would just write it on a Vehicle insp report so I would not get any points on my license. I did have to turn it in to safety and was fined a minimal amount ($25), but it did not count for any points on my license. In fact, the company paid the fine and deducted it from my settlement.
Braazooka Thanks this. -
I've had several of those over the years. If there was no citation issued, your pretty much safe to dispose of it. But as a rule, turn it into the company and let them sign and fax it.

What are the new thoughts on this NOW, in 2020? Big dang deal now.

Here in 2020 with CSA and everything, I would turn it in to my company so they can sign it and send it back. Unless you are an O/O with your own authority, you are not the motor carrier so you can't be the one to sign it. When something new shows up on the company CSA with that driver listed and he hadn't said anything about it, or turned in the inspection report, it might really hit the old fan.

The way it works here, and I have forgot to send them and tested it several times, is they will send you a letter with a copy of the inspection saying last chance to send it in. I am not sure what is meant by last chance, since I always sent it in when I recieved it in the mail.
Now I suspect if you throw your copy away, the company might be getting one of those letters. lol
