2012 Kenworth T660 with the paccar 2010 epa engine.
After treatment is acting up again, imagine that. Forced to run with the stop light and severe derate, getting particulate trap pressure and egr Delta pressure this time. I think i might have to get the filter cleaned.
I'm not really getting enough down time available to down the truck. Thinking about possibly taking the dpf out so shop can clean it and trying to continue my deliveries while it's being cleaned. I wanted to ask if anyone has tried this. I am working exclusively in Wyoming so emissions isn't a problem here. (If only I could delete after treatment and still get work done at shop when needed)
I think I've seen that with the filter removed the exhaust gases increase to detrimental levels for engine. Seems like it should remove restriction and reduce temperatures in my mind. I suspect the computer will somehow register the filter is gone and could potentially turn fuel off completely. I'm not sure. Ideally it should drive just as horribly as it is right now, only 10psi boost. It's horrible to drive but it still gets the job done.
Anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for reading

Hell, you already have the dpf yanked off, yank the egr off too and have the truck tuned by a good diesel shop and live a happy life

I’m no mechanic but I’ve read if the sensor by the dpf isn’t reading any back pressure, it will throw a code along with a derate.
-
Haven't pulled filter out yet. Trying to see if i can drive while it's being cleaned. Already running about maximum derate now i think so sensors not reading back pressure would only bother me if it completely shuts the truck down. I just don't know if it can damage the engine driving without the filter in or if the computer will completely shut down the truck

Shops won’t delete DPF anymore, something to do with the EPA suing the crap out of companies for doing it.
plus it’s against the rules here to even talk about it. -
Not trying to delete. Trying to see if i can still drive with dpf temporarily removed for cleaning. I don't have time available to down the truck. I can force it if no other option but it's significant negative consequence for me to do so

No, you're not gonna be able to do crap. Its gonna beep and squeal at you. Basically be undrivable. The truck is gonna have to get downtime no matter which way you slice it.

Not for nothing but a basic Chinese tool set from Home Depot, a few hours of your time and you can throw a new dpf in there. Stop by a shop pay $100 for them to reset the cpu and you’re done. But it’s usually never just one thing with emissions.
Don’t forget the new gaskets you don’t want to smell those toxic fumes all day.Last edited: Jan 13, 2020
