So where do you guys like to run your CB? With your squelch all the way open and your gain down just enough so the static stops? Or your gain all the way open with your squelch down just enough to where the static stops? Just curious

I agree with mitrucker. I’ve tried using the rf gain as the squelch like some guys do. The problem I found was that since the rf gain lowers the audio volume too, I would miss the first few words someone said. It was because I would have to turn the gain down while going through a town due to static from the electronic signs and stop lights. But then later after going through town, sometimes I would forget to turn my rf gain back up to hear. I found if you use the squelch instead, at least when I forget to turn the squelch back down, and someone close enough breaks the squelch, I can hear them due to the volume is still loud.

Yep, gain all the way up and the squelch to control the crap, for me.
I've got a couple of (cheap) radios that don't even have gain control, but the squelch knob is always there. They obviously are set at max gain as the only choice, which works for me.Timin770 Thanks this. -
I've always run squelch wide open and back off the rf gain. It's worked for me for the past 16 years, anyway

Ya, but think of all those gummy BEAR reports you’ve missed out on by running with your rf gain down.D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
LOL. I don't think it makes any difference. There are many on either side of the choice. It's nice to have choices. Hope we always do.

If you listen to static enough you will just mentally tune it out and rarely notice that it's there. Like a loud ticking clock in a house, after a while you don't even notice the ticking.
