There are websites that will tell you where you can dispose used oil for free. Several big name auto parts like AutoZone will accept up to 5 gal.

Amazon and ebay. They don't take oil though, either.

I burn filters in my burn barrel. Then throw the burned out filters in my metal trash to recycle. But i know not everyone has that option as i live in the country.

Your right. I'm stupid. When I bought the truck I asked about oil recommendations and was told Rotella or Delvac would be fine, although I didn't ask about regular or synthetic/blend I just assumed I would use the same oil as my old truck 15w40...

And then to be even more blonde I looked in the manual at the service intervals etc etc and looked at the page that says they recommend 10w30 for "normal" use with fuel mileage between 5-7 mpg or thereabouts... and for severe mileage like 3mpg they say 15w40... and I still used 15w40 even though I'm normal fuel mileage.

Then when @PE_Trans mentioned the 10w30 I rechecked the manual and ya it was confirmed I should be using 10w30...

I will be switching to that next service.

And as for trying to save money that certainly wasn't the intent as I said above I was changing oil every 12k miles...

I also send a sample to Blackstone labs every oil change...

Cummins recommends 50k miles with the 10w30 I'll probably cut that down to 25k and see what the lab results look like with the 10w30 and go from there....

I live in Indiana I'll be checking my local auto parts suppliers to see what the scoop is on taking in oil.

Yeah that environmental fee really irks me. That's a charge for "disposing " your used oil . Used oil that they sell to make even more profit .

Why not have your service done during home time at a local shop that is familiar with your truck? Why give your hard earned money to a corporate company filled with Jiffy Lube rejects?

Not sure if my local guy does PMs. He might only do repairs. I have no desire to do them myself. I've got all the stuff to do it but I'd rather go fishing.
