Running the Apu in the cold is a good thing.

Most circulate the coolant back through the big engine which helps keep the big engine less cold and easier to start in the morning, Also less time waiting for defroster to start working. Plus the APU should keep the batteries up and able to start the big engine in the morning.

It is 5 below 0 that is why i ask. This is first truck i ever had apu on. And this one does recirculate coolant back thru engine. Just not sure if its to cold to run or if i should idle. Thanks

When I ran for system transport they always wanted us to idle the truck instead of run the APU when it was that cold

It really is your choice. APU or Idle, while I would run APU, as most are set up to run coolant to the engine. Still would be a good idea when very cold, like 0 degrees to put something across grill to block off wind or the likes. It will help keep the temp up. The question is can it keep the cab warm enough to get good sleep.

Minus 5 is chilly. Do you have a Davco and is it heated. Might want to wrap some thermal drawers around it. That's where you will have your first problem.
If your Davco has a heater element and your Apu charges your batteries your golden. Just make sure you turn your key on for a few minutes prior to starting to let the Davco build heat.
If your not 100 percent sure of any of this, wrap your filter and idle.

Did not realize you were in that cold of a spot.

At 5 below I would probably idle the big engine..... It's cheaper to throw some fuel at the issue than the bill to thaw out the truck.

Wrap, wrap, wrap it up, I’ll take it.

One thing that can be a saver. Fuel anti-gel additive.
For the most part, not in to additives, but extremely cold temps are the exception.

It depends on the tractor. See back in 1950 or so Fergusson and Ford were shaking hands from the 2N series up through 800 series. The interesting thing was it was more a Fergusson tractor and people still liked buying the TEA20. Park them side by side and there is no difference. Other than the Ford stuff had the word Ford in the casting After googling the 8n image I would have to say the tractor your asking about is a 8N
The first pic is a Fergusson Tea20 in England.
    Tea20.jpg
The second pic is a 8N. The only other difference is that Fords had the battery box lid in the hood. Also in After the 8N through the hundred series a air intake grill could be found in the hood.

62 more days to spring. I can hardly wait!

If there isnt a autoparts store? Go to a garden center and buy some 3/4" rubber garden hose. Make sure it is the rubber stuff. The plastic stuff wont hold up and usually has ribbing inside that makes clamping impossible. Mind you the garden hose is only a patch until a proper repair can be made.
