Trucking Jobs in 30 seconds
Every month 400 people find a job with the help of TruckersReport.
-
I only know of one FMCSA employee that had a CDL he has long retired. Most get their jobs from posting on places like USAJOBS.GOV.
-
Nope and nope and nope.
They are typical high GS scale wheels in the blessed Government Service. Constantly pushing around regulations that dictate or complicate the workings of everything God has made perfect since Genesis. He did not need a FMCSA back then.
//TEASE, bordering on blasphemy. Show me a Ivory tower chief with full CDL and a lifetime of trucking up there and I would be more than happy to help out. But in the mean time i can only tease them. Its not credible to have many chiefs who has never touched a 18 wheeler in their work regulating same. -
Do you need a CDL to decide wether or not there's tape on a hose.
MIT Thanks this. -
No, and you don't have to be an aircraft pilot to work on aircraft engines.
-
Aren’t they mostly appointed?
-
No. Most are simple civil service jobs. I don't think there are any current openings. When you get into the political appointment level you are talking about very high ups. The average FMCSA civil servant is just on a wage scale and it almost takes an act of God to fire them once they hit that first year on the job.brian991219 Thanks this.

Then what’s stopping people in this industry from getting out of a truck and pursuing a government job? The number one complaint seems to be “they have no idea” yet rarely if ever do you hear about someone who goes after these positions when there’s an opening.brian991219 Thanks this.

Absolutely nothing. As I said in my first reply, I know of a guy that did just that. There are different jobs within the FMCSA, and each has it's own job requirements. Because I can find no current job openings I am unable to post the text of what they require.brian991219 Thanks this.

I will also add getting a federal government job also depends on your location. I live in the Hampton roads part of Virginia. There are close to 6 or 7 Military bases here. The Coast Guard is here. There is a VA hospital here. Over in Newport News, there is a shipyard. I know 3 people that work for NAVSEA that oversee Navy shipbuilding. At any given time there will be at least a few jobs open here. If you live in Podunk Iowa you might never see any job openings.
