No way! That would be us then! We cut around the Pratt area and then made our way up to Colby.
Did you run a cutting business or we're you on a crew? What was the name?

I worked for two crews. Started in 97 when I turned 16, went with a crew from Crary in 97 and 98. Albert Wood was his name. Second one are relatives of mine, Benson Harvesting from Sheyenne. 99 to 08. 2008 was my last year going south.
We cut in Altus, Kiowa, Pratt, Atwood, and St. Francis. Then up to Chappell or straight up to Pierre/Onida. Home after that, then back down to SD for fall harvest.SL3406, singlescrewshaker, Eldiablo and 6 others Thank this. -
My MIL used to make "Harvest Hamburgers". They weren't anything special, but man were they good. She'd fry up the burgers, put all the fixin's on them, wrap them in foil and keep them warm in the oven for about an hour.
I sure miss her and her cookin'.whoopNride, dwells40, singlescrewshaker and 8 others Thank this. -
That's awesome! The first crew doesn't ring a bell but I remember Benson harvesting. You guys ran the blue Peterbilt's and white service trucks?
I started going down south when I was 16 also. I work for a crew that was Pat Artz Harvesting and then my brothers and I bought out his operation in 98 and went south until 03 or so. We ran Hobart, Pratt, Colby, Pine Bluffs, Onida, Mott and then back home.
We quit going all the way down in 03 because we started farming more acres at home and needed to concentrate on that. We would go back down just in the fall to cut sunflowers in the Onida/Agar area and continued to cut there until about 5 years ago and called it quits.
I sure do miss going down there. It taught me important lessons in life like being responsible and having a hard work ethic. It was lots of fun and it was an experience I'll never forget.SL3406, IH Truck Guy, dwells40 and 9 others Thank this. -
That was us. I miss it, too. I still find myself wanting to go when the combines start heading south in May . Lots of good memories, though.singlescrewshaker, jamespmack, 1951 ford and 5 others Thank this.
