The school I have chosen does not require pre-hire letters, but the recruiter at the school suggested getting at least one before starting training. I really haven’t had a whole lot of luck yet in securing a pre-hire letter. Lots of “we don’t do pre-hires.” So, should I keep at it or focus my time and energy elsewhere?

Waste of time concentrate on passing and getting all of your endorsements and not picking a bad company to work for right out the gate

I have never had a letter like that in my life. Your main focus is getting that CDL and the necessary endorsement towards your target employers in your area or chosen future work in trucking whatever it might be.

Recruiters are to be managed with a catch pole ten feet long and a loop so they can bark all they want. Their goal is simple. Gather in fresh meat who does not know anything about trucking. /sarc

We don't have time for letters. It is generally understood that you are new in trucking if you never held a CDL A before. And they will proceed from there. Many companies are predatory and do not conform with what we think a good company should be, and prey on drivers.

There are also Megas that will endanger your future employability because they are bottom feeders. And you would be surprised.

But you will learn all that as time goes by after you graduate with that CDL A.

People get these per-hire letters from companies that most of them would not want to work for to begin with. smh.

Its nothing wrong with working for any of those companies because they're just startup companies. Pretty much the same. That said, you dont have to worry about prehire letters. I didn't have the best of luck with those either. Just go online and apply to different companies who hire students. Some of them wont even send recruiters to truck driving schools. Look on here, there are some companies that advertise hiring for students that fall under the radar. You'll be surprised

In just a few short days I have already learned quite a bit from yourself and several others. At this point, I really don’t think I’ll be surprised by anything I see, hear, or read when it comes to anything trucking. But, then again, I have no idea yet what the future holds for me. This is going to be an exciting ride. Maybe a bit like when I first went into the Marine Corps.

That’s exactly what I am finding. CRST is the only company so far to say they will do a pre-hire. Since talking to the recruiter, I learned that it is all team driving. I can do a few weeks with a trainer because I am in that position to learn how to drive and everything that goes with it. Forced team driving with someone that is a complete stranger for several months to a year? Not really what I am seeking.
Bulkley Trucking might provide a pre-hire letter, but when I first asked, the HR Rep had no idea what such a letter is.

    A Marine?

WAL... am a marine spouse and officer brat here myself. Several connections to the Corps but not personally (Am Deaf.)

Trucking will be a journey. You can maybe take it for a wonderful time to visit many awesome places around the USA meet people and enjoy the food etc. Thats how we look at it now. However Ive been through too much as a trucker and don't know any better. Its what I am and its not always good. Took me years to let the bad stuff go.

Trucking has I think if you are careful you can profit very well and build savings big time. In a decade? you would be a old timer able to pay cash for any home. If you are collecting VA benefits? all the better. Just put that into the bank and let it pile up. Eventually social security will kick in, double dip for you. Medical care? Just drop by any clinic or VA. (Not that you want to really. But it's there and free) Although I can imagine the travel pay to you 2000 miles from home)

I try to see the good. But it's hard because the industry itself is so set in it's same old morass of BS. Pay for example .034 a mile. They paid that 35 years ago. Come on. I made .48 in 2001. Its 20 years ago. It should be .65 or better. Or even forget the whole 1934 ICC regulating the industry and evolve into Salary etc.

I don't know. Many wanna be a trucker. Some are. For a while. Then theyre replace by many more.

Its much harder to replace a 757 pilot or a marine than it is to replace a trucker. A dime a dozen.
