I'm planning to go to CDL school in the next month or two and I'm putting together a list of companies that I'd like to apply to. From what I've heard, it sounds like my best bet is to specialize from the beginning. I've been going through job postings and (understandably) the better looking jobs are wanting 6 months to 3 years experience. I'm trying to avoid taking a job only to count the days until I have enough experience to jump ship to a better company. I'm in over my head, so I thought I'd come here to ask the experts.
I'm in the Springfield, Mo area. I have a family so I would like as many weekends and holidays as I can get. Home daily would be nice but I haven't seen much out there. I'd like to go after the higher pay as soon as possible (tankers?). I'm trying to stay away from foodservice and probably flatbed right now. I have already talked to Dot transportation and plan to contact Transland. I'm struggling to find tanker companies that take someone straight out of school.
If anyone knows of good companies around the area, or just has some general guidance, your input is greatly appreciated.

What kind of money are you wanting to make? Do you need benefits?

Home daily isn't impossible but I wont lie and say that it's plentiful. Even with experience it can be difficult to find local work. You are in Springfield, what did Prime say? You may have to run a little on the road just to pad your resume. I would advise you, be open to all opportunities.

You aren't gonna make 75k working at Prime unless you start robbing banks on your 30min break.
Hazmat Cat Thanks this. -
Hell 75k is not that easy to come by with most OTR companies. Probably the upper 10 percent at best

You may not get lucky enough to get all your wishes right away. But don’t run and job hop. A majority of jobs have requirements but once you get a clean 6 months a lot opens up with a year most of the industry opens up for you... but you gotta keep a clean rec

I can give you some insight to DOT Transportation.

@Chinatown could probably list some additional companies that are not on your list.
